Say you are like some of us, and prefer to use made up templates to base characters on, rather than allowing players to pick their attributes/skills..
What attribute breakdown would you assign to an assassin?
What sort of skills would they have? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Well as your talking about specialty characters you need to break it down. What kind of assassin are you wanting to do? Melee, poison, infiltration, ranged, fem fatal? _________________ Don Diestler

I built an assassin template into my character generator.
I believe I gave them skill bumps in ranged weapons, melee weapons, brawling, the deceptive arts (con, pickpocket, sneak), dodge, intimidate, streetwise, various knowledge skills, and a specific bump in one form of transportation - either bargain and bureaucracy for booking passage, or space transports. Possibly also a bump in demolitions and first aid (I figure they have a working knowledge of anatomy). |

Could also just use the Bounty Hunter template and only have him take Wanted Dead Only bounties. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

Should each different types be a different template? Or say they would be different skill packages/equipment lists for each but based on the same general template.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Or say they would be different skill packages/equipment lists for each but based on the same general template.. | There's not a lot of overlap between the attributes used to poison people (Perception, Technical) and those used to thrash guards or to pick off a target with a laser rifle (Dexterity, Strength).
That said, with the right skills, you could probably make some kind of assassin out of the attributes of any template. I'd still try and flesh out how the assassin works before statting, though. _________________ Or that excessively long "Noooooooooo" was the Whining Side of the Force leaving him. - Dustflier

So an assassin as in an amoral killer for monetary gain? Wouldn't that be like 99% of all PCs every created? |

In reality, yes, in theory, no. _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

Oh I absolutely agree an assassin template for general PC consumption is not in the spirit of Star Wars at all. As a major, recurring enemy sure or for NPCs, but for a player? Unless he has an excellent character concept, has a proven record that he can role and not roll play, and can make it all make sense as a character that plays well with others and is a hero, no way in hell I would allow the concept. _________________ Don Diestler

Wasn't the Rodian Dramatist and assassin template? _________________ "I still wouldn't have a roll for it - but that's just how I roll." |
