Hey guys.
Nice episode. You forgot to talk about the DSPs you would get firebombing a planet
So my view on shield generators is basically using the Arc rules. If you can get 10D shields, you choose to put it at the "top" arc to give you 10D to resist. If you split it among 5 arcs (top left right etc) then you only have 2D shields, but people cant walk in anymore.
They will also have to be wide enough so that if they bomb the edge, no collateral damage will hit your base if you are only covering the top arc.
Size is again important. The surface area of a sphere grows exponentially (A=4[pie]r[squared]) so the power output is hugely dependent on the size you want to cover
on top of all of that - I remember reading somewhere that the further you shoot in the atmosphere, the more of the bolt's energy is leeched away by the air. If you think about it, the bolt has to burn up every atom of oxygen (nitrogen, etc) between you and them. So that would explain why the cross "just shoot from the side" would not work, because they would have to travel much further through the air, therefore dissipating much more.
Anyway, great episode. Sorry for the stream of consciousness type post - just throwing ideas at the paper and not editing them as I am on my way out the door! _________________ The Vong have Arrived

For the localized shield stats, it would probably be best to say that it protects from direct bombardment out to a certain radius, with angled bombardment (at greater difficulty) possible beyond that distance, and decreasing in difficulty the further one gets from the shield generator.
Another interesting question; since shields are generally added to the Hull of whatever they are trying to damage, what should be added to the shield roll to represent the soak capacity of a base like Echo Base on Hoth? _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Have you ever hit a slump in something?
We certainly have. We started off with schedule delays, then technical problems, and now we've lost our interview. I'm pushing to just release the episode sans interview, and will re-do it with James and have it for Episode 31.
We're so sorry, folks. _________________ Don Diestler

No problem.
I've enjoyed the shows I've listened to so far and this will be the first one I'll be able to comment on in relative "real" time. |

Have just caught up with the show and was pleased to hear the bit about a ship I came up with mentioned.
Keep up the good work |

Okay, I'm having trouble keeping up. Someone please volunteer to complete my certifications for work, print them up, and put them on my wall so I can listen to more of Daniel and Don (who are, of course, awesome)!!!
I'll catch up early next week. Thanks you guys, you're doing great things for the community. _________________ __________________________________

Hmm, I don't see the link for your dropbox on my firefox page nor the option to download.
Am I doing something wrong? |
