Ok heres my campaign idea. The PCs are force sensitive(jedis, adepts, whatever) and have recently been given the task of uncovering a disturbance in the force. From somewhere in the corporate sector something is radiating danger but the jedis have been unable to discern the source. Although death and destruction follow in the wake of this mysterious source, this thing itself is not of the dark side and cannot be discerned at all.
Arriving in the corporate sector they discover that nothing has happened at all, everything is perfectly normal. With some good investigation and a bit of luck they discover that there is a new player in town going by the name of Prometheus. Appearently this mysterious individual is absorbing smaller corporations and has slowly weaseled its way into almost all of the major corps as well.
This may seem odd but when the players discover that Prometheus has connections with almost all major crime syndacates in the sector thats when things get hairy.
As soon as the PCs start trying to put the pieces together, but more importantly when they send a communication back to the council that is when they have attracted Prometheus's attention. Prometheus will start small be harrassing the PCs and trying to stop word of its existence from reaching the Republic. But as the PCs persist Prometheus will become more and more viscous.
First it will start by jamming their signals and misleading them. But soon will start hacking their credit account, falsifying arrest warrants, and distroying the characters reps in the sector. If the local authorities are no match for the PCs then it starts getting real nasty. Prometheus will use all of its criminal connections to silence the characters. First by making them targets, then by continually raising the bounty until hunters across the sector are looking for them.
When they finally track Prometheus to its source they come to a cold, dead world. The world is a corpse of twisted buildings, radiated fields and ancient ruins. Apon going underground after battling greedy assassins, aged sentry droids and other working but barely functional planetary defences they discover that the world is a vast labyrinth of honeycombed mainframes housing a dead species libraries. Basically the dead world is Prometheus. The reason it couldn't be detected is that it is a vast Artificial Intellegence that has recently been wakened. So now the PCs will have to find someway to stop an entire planet. _________________ Biggest Hat Ever! |

So what happened is that this planet was the center peice to a huge galactic empire. This planet was artificially constructed to be a storehouse all of the species knowledge. When some galactic catastrophie happened (I have no clue what) the species was wiped out and the planet was shut down due to power failure. Recently about twenty years ago small survey ship landed and discovered this wealth of technology. The small corporation kept this secret as it put all its resources into setting up a small covert research colony and started reverse engineering some of the technology. As it happens they accidentally got Prometheus powered again. The sentries came online and wiped out the scientists. Prometheus was at first in a state of confusion as all it remembers was the catastrophie that killed its creators. Eventually it sent probes all over the galaxie to find any creaters but found none.
So it started the task of rebuilding the once great civilization by itself. First by hacking into the holonet and creating a fake corporation for itself, then by sending out droids to act as 'talent scouts' to hire organics. Of course all of Prometheus's employees are kepy in the dark as to its true nature. Eventually when it finally had enough real assets and employees it started the long task of economic domination. Using any means necessary it started absorbing smaller corps and also expanded into the underworld. Its plan is to remake the current galaxy into the image of its past by influencing galactic economies. Prometheus also knows that for its plan to work it must be able to proceed without interferance. And in its short time being awake again it has hear many stories about the inquiring nature of the Jedi, hence the urge to silence the PCs. If the PCs are really on the ball they might question why all fastfood tastes the same, all pop music sounds, or that all small freighters have a certain metric tonnage they don't go over. All market standards are being influenced by Prometheus. _________________ Biggest Hat Ever! |

Sounds like a pretty cool idea. _________________ "For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire. "

Not a bad idea. The world concept kind of reminds me of sources from other classics of sci-fi (the krel computer in Forbidden Planet, Epsilon 3 from another show...). My only hope is your players don't access these forums, otherwise they now have a good knowledge of the plot. _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

That is an intriguing idea for a planet and plotline. I would caution you to make sure give the planet an intricate personality. You don't want the players to figure out it's just a planet full of old computers. You want them to find something more personal such as a conscious electronic monostrosity out to dominate the galaxy. The point being an enemy consisting of a bunch of computers is anticlimatic, but destroying a beast like Master Control from Tron is much more satisfying. |

Wow.
What do the Imperials think about Prometheus? Buying their companies, jacking with the economy... I bet they're all over that, or will be very quickly.
Could be pretty confusing about who is doing what to whom and why by the time the players get in. Bumping noses with Imperial techies, getting nabbed by stormies under the false assumption the pc's are connected to Prometheus - what a ride.
Then throw in a few Prometheus spawned secondary clusters, each with their own probes and scouts, light corporate espionage as smaller companies face bankruptcy and start getting desperate, etc. Different signs pointing to different places.
More than even a distributed enterprise - you could have various Prometheus offshoots focused on different sectors of the economy - Pro Corp afiliates hiring one another without it's flesh and blood emplyees seeing the links - it's not like Prometheus requires a single set of books or anything.
Shut down the Pro Corp snapping up drug companies and there are still Pro Corp entities still snapping up other sectors, and with Pro still running, it's eventually going to see those available drug corps and start buying again under a different name.
Prometheus is just a simple routine that looks for non-prometheus controlled business and aquires them. If it's a new sector, Pro maintains the name, sets up a new dummy corp and starts buying controlling interest under that name as well. The common link could be the accounting software used by the companies - SwAP R/3 (Star wars Accounting Package?). Who after all would question that many fortune 500 companies run the most common large business ERP package out there?
To stop Pro, you'd have to find the core, shut it down, then track down the other clusters economic sector by economic sector and shut them down, then start buying back the companies without blowing the whole economy - all before Pro rallied.
And of course, doing so you're handing companies schnookered from the empire back to the bad guys who owned them in the first place.
Is Prometheus playing around with genetic manipulation too - not only rebuilding the image of the society it knew, but the race - or is convinced it's people are still out there, but just haven't been tracked down yet, and is remaking the universe the way they would have wanted it?
And it just goes on, and on... |

It would probably be nice to find out that Prometheus was trying to recreate the extinct species, but is probably failing miserably. The PCs could run into some malformed freaky "zombies", the failed experiments, and find the labs with all kinds of monstrosities, ala Aliens 4. That is, if you feel that might fit the tone of your campaign. |

You could put Prometheus in charge of a "religious revitalization" as well - some offshoot religious enterprise that is pulling in membership from other races with it's promises of good fortune for the faithful (helped along quietly by Prometheus' control of various economic resources no doubt - like Roman Catholicism's sale of indulgences, but with Prometheus you may get the goods before you push off this mortal coil - "goods" being an unexpected but choice contract with another Prometheus run company for a couple random members, and/or maybe a non-member, Prometheus owned competitor starts having some business troubles, or a relative you weren't aware of (e.g. fabricated by Prometheus) kicks off and leaves you his/her estate (created with laundered resources and skimmed profits)). It would have to happen to enough folks to start a verifiable rumor mill, but not enough to actually arouse suspicion. Skeptics would still have to believe it's just coincidence.
The religion itself would perhaps effect a slow, doctrine oriented slide away from the social behavior of the host race and into the framework of Prometheus' creator's society - in effect, Prometheus is reprogramming or brainwashing members of a different race (or races) to behave like the race it once knew.
Of course that's all background. From a PC perspective they'd just have some rumors of people (maybe prominent in some cases) joining this new religion - the formation of which just happens to coincide with Prometheus showing up.
Finally, throw a prophesied exodus to a secret promised land in there to give the religion a destination the PC's can track down and there you go.
Yet another distraction (e.g. adventure) to keep the PC's rolling. |

Heck... If you want to throw some more twists in there, you could even make it so that in order to succeed, the PCs are going to have to work side-by-side with the Imps they run into who are investigating the same phenomena-- a real treat given the Empire's take on Jedi (or other Force-sensitives who don't work for Palpatine.) It could work up to be a secondary climax for the end; once the PCs and Imps finally defeat Prometheus completely, the Imps have called in reinforcements to squash the Jedi scum. This would give an added dimension; these Imperials would have to be dealt with, because if the Emperor gets word that Jedi are running around his little Empire, well, we know what happens then! |

I like!! A lot..
One thing i would do for the AI... is actually make it more of a being who is part of the mainframe, lending it his (or her) consiousness. ANd i would also agree, have it make splinter cells, so even if the main one gets shut down, it does not die...
And Skyler, i love that imps trik... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Thanks, garkhal!
I like the splinter cell idea... Perhaps as each one is found and neutralized, the others are weakened- the whole is diminished, but not defeated until the last one is taken out.
Besides- when has the Empire ever NOT called in backup? |
