I was wondering if anyone had ever updated (created "house" stats) for the updated version of the Super Star Destroyer? WEG built the stats for the SSD around it being 8km. But the new version of the SSD is 19km. Not looking to a length debate, don't really care, but I want to use the 19km version in a story and was wondering what an appropriate up-scaled stats would look like? Everything from crew to number of batteries, starfighters carried, etc.

If not, I could always make up something, but I was just curious if anyone more creative than I had put something forth that I could use as a guideline.

Thanks!

In the Dark Empire Source book there was a ship called the Eclipse. It was larger than the Super Star Destroyer. I'm not home now but could post the stats here in about four to five hours.

19km long SSD? I think you may be mistaken. Where did you see/hear/read about this? I would be very interested. Don't get me wrong, everything is HUGE in the Star Wars universe.

Thanks, Griff.

Shooting: 19km is the new standard for the Super Star Destroyer. The 8km length was determined to be false.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Executor-class_Star_Dreadnought

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Super-class_Star_Destroyer

There was a big debate (largely stemming from the old Star Wars Technical Commentaries site) that the SSD was actually much longer than the WEG statistic of 8km, based on its on-screen size when scaled against the regular ISDs. But then in 2004, Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy reference book set the length to 19km, which the official SW website's databank followed. It's been this way since then; any guidebook, reference book or any of the D20 books that followed kept with the 19km statistic. New reference books like Essential Guide to Warfare follow the 19km as well, and give more details on why there was a discrepancy to begin with (in the new EU material, the 8km design was a fabricated design used to trick the Senate for budgetary reasons).

Was just interested if anyone had upped the stats to accommodate the change. I know a lot of SW fans weren't really happy with the 19km change.

Okay now I know what what your talking about. To start off the Executor and the Super are the same ship. I do not think the Executor was meant to replace the SSD. Very few of them were built and seemed more of a ship a fleet would be built around. Just my thoughts and thanks for the information.

IIRC, the retcon is that there are two classes of ship at play now, both called Executor-class for political reasons. Executor-class star dreadnaught (super star destroyer being a slang term for all wedge shaped ships above 2 km in length or so), and the Executor-class SSD. The former is 19 km long, and the latter is 8 km long. They look very similar, except for the scaling differences. Only a handful of 19 km Executor-class ships were built. Lusankya, Razor's Kiss, and Iron Fist were all examples of SSDs, while Executor herself was a star dreadnaught

Sorry, but that retcon is too flimsy for my tastes. My fix? 19k long, +2D Hull, double crew, double all weapon numbers, double TIE complement. I have a more complicated version, but it reflects a few house rules I've invented over the years.

Well, if we're going by the official retcons introduced in the new reference material (see the Wookieepedia pages I linked above for the sources, mostly from sources such as the Official Databank, Starships of the Galaxy, Star Wars Miniatures, Essential Guide to Warfare, etc), then there's only one Executor-class, and it's a star dreadnought. The Super-class Star Destroyer is a "fictional" ship (fictional in-universe) as a means to disguise the true nature of the Executor (according to the retcon, the budget committee wouldn't have approved a ship of 19km due to cost, etc, so they had to hide it). However, the retcon establishes that the term Super Star Destroyer still exists as a catch-all for any Star Destroyer above 2km in length.

But, it's mostly irrelevant, because it's not like any adventures we run in our D6 campaigns have to adhere to what the official retcons are or anything. I just wanted to know what the stats of an upscaled version would look like, and the +2D you mention sounds reasonable. If you wouldn't mind, I would like to know what your house rules include, I'm interested!

The main one is a modified scale system which breaks Capital into three categories: Starship for corvettes, frigates and the smaller cruisers, Capital Ship for anything Victory Star Destroyer sized and up to 2-3 kilometers, then Dreadnought for all the big ships. Each scale step is 4D, so while corvettes and frigates lose 2D (and are thus more vulnerable to star fighters, but more maneuverable as a trade-off), while Capital Ships pick up 2D, and Dreadnoughts gain an additional 6D. With that dialed in, you then begin breaking down weapon systems into scale classes, so that the big capital ships have a few big guns (Capital Ship Scale) lots of medium guns (Starship Scale) and some smaller guns for anti star fighter defense.

The Star Wars Technical Commentaries page at TheForce.net used film footage, where a shadow from a regular ISD is projected on the hull of the Executor and did a size comparison, ultimately proving that the Executor was atleast 11 times longer than an ISD.

I could see a 2-3D breakage between scales, but 4d is a little off.
So it would go
character 0d
speeder 2d
walker 4d
fighter 6d
freighter 8d
starship 10d
cap ship 12d
dreadnought 14d
space station (death star 16d)

We've had this discussion previously. It ultimately comes down to personal choice.

I kind of like that idea, thanks for sharing it!

Do you have a post anywhere covering your changes to the scale system it sounds interesting?
