If Han had parried a blaster bolt or even just defended himself successfully with a lightsaber then I'd say that they need to be easier for the average person to use successfully but to gut an immobile animal when you don't care about nicking intestines or making sure the animal is still edible afterwards should be a very easy task. |
Exactly. I probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a pistol shot under combat conditions, but I could blow the head off a corpse at zero meters. |

Another possibility is that perhaps Han didn't roll the lightsaber skill at all. Perhaps what he rolled was the survival skill and the lightsaber was just a tool he used for that.
I'd probably allow that given he was not in a combat situation. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

Makes sense. In a gaming situation Han probably would have make a survival roll to see what he could do to keep Luke alive until he finished the shelter, and came up with the idea of sticking him in the body of the Taun-taun. If he had to make a lightsaber roll or not is questionable. The GM might have ruled that a lightsaber skill roll was not necessary.
It certainly wouldn't have helped the plot if Han had sliced off his leg and the pair of them died from exposure. |

I figure that if Han had had a vibro-knife I wouldn't have made him roll his Melee skill to skin the tauntan (for instance) so perhaps having a lightsaber just meant he had to roll survival at a higher difficulty due to the potential danger and unfamiarity with the device. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.
