|
|
The only place I've ever seen any information about the Chiss species is in the Heir to the Empire Sourcebook, but even then it's only a character study of Thrawn, and doesn't describe the race in general.
I have a Chiss NPC who will be making a grand entrance at our next session, does anyone know of any special effects or benefits of the race, or where the race itself is described in the sourcebooks? |

The Alien Stats book has the following, converted from the Ultimate Alien Anthology & Alien Anthology:
Chiss
Home Planet: Csilla
Attribute Dice: 12D
DEXTERITY 2D/4D
KNOWLEDGE 2D/4D
MECHANICAL 2D/4D
PERCEPTION 2D/4D
STRENGTH 2D/4D
TECHNICAL 2D/4D
Special Abilities:
Low Light Vision: Chiss can see twice as far as a normal human in poor lighting conditions.
Skill Bonuses: At the time of character creation only, Chiss characters gain 2D for every one die they assign to the tactics, command, and scholar: art skills.
Tactics: Chiss characters receive a permanent +1D bonus to all tactics skill rolls.
Move: 10/12
Size: 1.6 to 2.1 meters tall.
Source: Ultimate Alien Anthology ( pages 36-38 ), Alien Anthology ( pages 64-65 )
This help you out? Or were you looking for official stats, because I don't think there's been anything official for Chiss for D6.

Yeah, there was a conversion from the OCR/RCR d20 books. I think they went a little silly with it by giving them bonuses to tactics and art. I thought those things were unique to Thrawn... but you can do anything you'd like with the stat block:

Wasn't it explained in the NJO novels, when they went to the chiss homeworld that many of their kind are like that, not just thrawn? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Honestly, I've never read any of the NJO novels, and only listened to a couple on audiobook. That might bery well be the case. _________________ __________________________________

Timothy Zahn, who created the species, did expand on the species in his outbound flight novels and the Thrawn Duology: Spectre of the Past & Vision of the Future.
From what I remember they are surrounded on all sides by enemies and are a class based society, so the few Chiss you'd see in the main galaxy would likely be from the military class, as other classes rarely leave their domain. Your average everyday civilian Chiss is probably much like your average human, but then, you'd never see one unless you're on one of their many worlds. |

Thanks for bringing this. I also personally think that they went overly-"literal" by singling out just that specific Art skill; I would have found it more logical to specify "any one KNOWLEDGE skill" along with Command and Tactics, if they wanted to reflect the genius level of thinking that this species represents.
But otherwise, yes, this was exactly the kind of thing I had been looking for. |

You would think racially they would have a higher Know and Per max and lower str/dex max, to reflect their mentality. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
