Hey you old-timers. The Beta version of Edge of the Empire by Fantasy Flight Games got me thinking. Did West End Games ever do a Beta version for Star Wars d6? Anybody familiar with the history of the early testing of the game? |

I don't know that WEG ever had a beta that was publicly available, but I have heard about the history of the D6 development from Peter Schweighoffer, though not being a part of the team until second edition, he can't comment on anything first hand. You can read a bit about the development here:

I think that they did an interview with one of the lead designers for the D6 system in the first issue of the D6 Magazine, but I don't remember what he'd said, if anything, that is relevant to the initial development. _________________ __________________________________
Before we take any of this too seriously, just remember that in the middle episode a little rubber puppet moves a spaceship with his mind. |

I really doubt it; freely available alpha and beta systems weren't very common before the internet. _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

Thanks for the info and link, Cheshire. I think that historical backround is very interesting. They really had a talented group of people, and some very good writers over at WEG.
That makes sense, Ankhanu - beta versions probably were less common back then. I remember getting the little 1-page color advertisement for the 1st Ed. rulebook and the Sourcebook from a Lucasfilm Fan Club (anybody know what I'm referring to?). I was super excited. Do I remember right that the release of the 1st Ed. was delayed a little bit? I think it ended up being a couple months late, if memory serves me correctly. |

I know for a fact that they did a beta for the Second edition players book, I know one of the guys who listed as a play tester, Robert Maxwell, and gamed with him for years before he moved to another part of the state. _________________ No matter where you go, there you are... |
