Main IC Thread - Act I - Rumors in the Distance

"We split before we entered the forest. But if I had to guess I would say he is probably near the loud explosions. Just a hunch," Shadow replies to the Captain's query. "Is there any limit on the ammunition on these guns?" he asks as he powers up the cannon. "Lets see if these work this time," he mumbles to himself as he turns in the direction of the bombers.

Daryn scrambles madly in the opposite direction as the first bomb hits just outside the front of the cantina. Mid-dodes, he extends his tongue and activates the comlink in his vocalizer. "Bri'tan! What's your status?"

Bri'tan
Bri'tan lifts the Nerf straight up and clears the tops of the tallest trees, turning the ship to face the West as he does so. Coming around, he can see dark black smoke rising from various spots in the village, giving evidence of the payload that had been released there.

In the distance, Bri'tan spies the squadron of bombers veering to the south, presumably looping around for another run; though at their current trajectory and speed, Bri'tan calculates they won't be back for a few minutes.

Just as he is about to hit the throttle, he hears a message come through over the comm, as Daryn yells: "Bri'tan, what's your status?"

Shadow
Shadow sees the console turn green, indicating that his weapons are fully charged and operational. Turning around and tracking the bomber squadron, Shadow notes that the four TF bombers are currently out of range. His thoughts, however, are focused not on firing his weapon, but on the devastation he sees in the village. Smoke is pouring from multiple locations and many of the wood-paneled buildings are on fire.

Daryn
Daryn mouths the words into his comlink, but can't really tell if he actually spoke them. The sheer volume of the nearby blasts seems to have incapacitated his hearing for the moment. Off to the left, Deavon is shouting something in his direction, but the words do not register. Much more nearby, Lurk is sprawled on the ground, shrapnel protruding from several locaions on his body. At the moment, he can't locate Kron, but the smoke is heavy from that end of the building.

Daryn makes sure his bracer is keyed to flash at him when he has an incoming message, since he is currently unable to hear.

He opens himself up to the Force again, casting about for Kron's whereabouts.

Shadow searches the village for survivors and scouts for the best place to set down (ie. a courtyard or square). The devastation is significant and he realizes that his shots are going to have to count to make sure that the bombers don't get another round at the village or there will be nothing left. He begins preparing to fire when they first enter range and begins aiming at the lead bomber to ensure he gets good hits. "Bri'tan, any sign of the survivors? We don't have long before those bombers come back, we need to get them out of there fast."

Slapping the comm switch, Bri'tan says one word, "Incoming," in reply to Daryn's message. Checking the coordinates for where the message came from, he shoves the throttle forward.

Bri'tan
Bri'tan fires off his transmission and at his command, the Greased Nerf streaks forward, throwing it's passengers back in their seats. The ship skims low above the surface of the ground and quickly arrives at the village. The coordinates point toward the building at the far end of the village - a building which appears to have had most of it's roof blown off.

Shadow
Sadow begins counting survivors and doesn't get very far. He sees a few handfuls of people fleeing into the trees surrounding the village, but aside from that there are no visible survivors.

Shadow slowly shakes his head and returns his focus to the squadron of bombers. They are still just out of range, but are circling back for another run. He figures in less than a minute or so, he will be able to fire.

Daryn
Daryn almost immediately sees his bracer start flashing, alerting him of an incoming message. Daryn isn't quite able to make out the words, but he can tell it is a very short message.

Realizing that time is an issue, Daryn quickly opens himself up the force and tries to concentrate. As he reaches out searching for Kron, Daryn is immediately aware of panic and pain and fear in the beings in his vicinity. He smiles slightly as he gets a feeling of determination from his new Padawan. Suddenly Daryn latches onto Kron's presence and much to his surprise, the Devaronian was now behind Medallea, closer to the front of the bar. Apparently the second explosion had sent him flying acroos the cantina.

Shadow continues to track the inbound bombers, opening fire as soon as they enter range to try to get them to scatter and break formation or at least break off the attack temporarily.

Daryn moves to Kron's location to see if he's hurt. If not, he helps Kron up and motions that they should get out quickly.

Continuing his rapid approach, Bri'tan risks a glance at the co-pilot's station to see if Kage is there before reaching for the shipwide comm, "Someone drop the port boarding ramp. I dont want to stick around any longer than we have to." Releasing the switch, he sends another message to Daryn, "We'll be at your front doorstep in just a sec."

Shutting out everything but the task at hand, Bri'tan slows the Greased Nerf slightly as he nears the building. At the last moment, he reverses thrust in an effort to slow the bulky freighter. As she ship slows, he turns the ship ninety digrees in an attempt to line the boarding ramp up with the building's front door.

Daevon runs over to his Master.

"Keep back Lizard, we have bigger problems."

Looking up to Daryn,

"Need a hand Master?"

Daryn
After a second or two, Daryn finds Kron sprawled out against what was left of the shattered front wall. The Devaronian had a grin on his face which Daryn first took as a good sign. But just before Daryn asked Kron to follow him quickly out of the cantina, the jedi spied a splintered wall board protruding through Kron's chest. After a moment or two, the silence is broken as Kron chuckles, which is accompanied by some blood coughing out of his mouth.

Kron then reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out the datacard he had previously been haggling over. With a grin Kron says, "I guess Count Dooku just lost his opportunity to negotiate." Kron holds the datacard out to Daryn and says in between coughs: "Go find your ship, and use it to get me some payback."

Daevon
Deavon, finding himself remarkably unscathed, runs over to Daryn and asks what he can do. The Trandoshan was more than happy to comply with his order and was already running for an exit, albeit with a pronounced limp that was not there before.

Deavon arrives to his Master's side and his gaze soon rests on Kron and the wooden beam sticking through his chest.

Off to his right, Deavon notices Lurk wounded and strugging to walk under his own weight.

Shadow
Even though Bri'tan quickly and forcefully whips the ship around in a brilliant but violent move, Shadow is still able to track the squadron of bombers with his targeting computer. Soon, the ship is slowed and begins to descend, allowing Shadow a shot at just the right time.

Just as the bombers reach the edge of his firing range, Shadow fires off a volley. He watches as his shots go right through the center of the formation, not scoring a hit but succeeding in spreading them out a bit and slowing them down.

Bri'tan
Bri'tan once again displays his superior piloting skill. As he pulls of another brilliant maneuver he does hear a yelp of surprise come from somewhere behind him in the ship.

Paying no heed, Bri'tan hits the reverse thrusters and slows the big ship quicker than most would have thought possible. He hears no reply from Daryn but does notice that Kage beeps an affirmative at his suggestion that someone drop the ramp.

Bri'tan checks the sensors to see how much time they have before the bombers arrive again. Mumbling something implite under his breath, he sends Daryn another message, "No time for goodbyes, we need to GO!"

Daryn's large eyes go even bigger as they alight on the shaft of wood sticking out of Kron's chest. Gently taking the datacard from Kron, he says, "We've a medic on our team; we might be able to stabilize you until we can get you to a proper medical facility."

Looking at Daevon he asks, "Do you have any training in the healing arts? Anything that might help him survive until we can get him to the ship and our medic?"
