A really, really long time ago, the Old Ones left the Star Wars galaxy and began their long journey to our galaxy. Now they live in my secret underground lair.

I ran an entire campaign that was centered around the celestials and the question that no-one seems to ask "Why are the no ancient civilisations left."

If you are interested i could probably dig up my campaign notes.

it was a fair fun game.... the gorup was funny (stupid) as, running around half the galaxy looking for things just cause they were asked to (without ANY reasons why!)

Here you go Riij Skootu.

The celestials where a race of incorporial force beings that chose mortals as hosts and lived in a symbiotic relationship with them providing almost primal force power and longevity and the force entity would be anchored by the mortals body and sustained by feeding off the neural waste energy created by sentiant minds.

About one million years ago the younger races banded together and imprisoned all the force entities within a giant monolith placed in the center of the maw.

When the alliance of young races collapsed there information library was set to automatic and was told to gather information in preperation for the rise of the new alliance.

After eons of work the system came to the conclusion that it could not gather information that was trustworthy if others new of it's existence there was also the danger of information thiefs. So the library with all of it's vast knowledge and an army of infiltraitor droids set about destroying any civilisation that knew of it's existence and went back to work. And so through the ages anyone who learns of it is destroyed.

The library has the information needed to unlock the monolith.

That is pretty much the back story,if you want more details of the rest of the campaign i would be only to happy to provide them. I hope this is helpful.

Made me think of something Lostboy. Don't jump all over me this is just a thought....

What if the Force was just a manifestation of the Celestials and they are still around indirectly influencing the physical world? at least in your campaign.

It would kinda of be cool to have the the dual nature of the force be like warring Gods or a splinter group who try to spread chaos in the galaxy which manifests as the dark side.

I don't know if it would feel like star wars but it might be fun. Then again I have always liked Greek mythology.

Actually that's not a bad idea. I have always thought of the force as like gravity, the greater the amount in one place the more it pulls you in it's direction. But the idea of gods or weather evil or benign influencing the path of mortals makes me uncomfortable.

Some cool ideas here. (I'm also a big Greek mythology fan).

In my campaign, the Old Ones or Celestials were perhaps one of the first species to achieve sentience in the Star Wars galaxy, predating even the Rakata. They evolved and became the first advanced civilization in the galaxy and at their height they even far exceeded the "modern" galaxy of the movies. They may have splintered into multiple groups, and some may have left the galaxy in super-advanced starships to explore other galaxies. Some may have enslaved the Rakata until they overthrew their masters.

Through the development of advanced genetic engineering/cloning technology and the use of the Force, at least one group of them developed the ability to reincarnate themselves, and after many thousands of years of that, eventually eliminated the need of even having corporeal bodies altogether, becoming immortal cosmic beings of pure energy. Some of these may still exist around the galaxy in some form, maybe they moved on to other things or finally "died".

Six of these beings from the Celestial homeworld's nebula became known as "The Whills" (the name coming from an early draft of Star Wars in which the Force was powered by god-like energy beings). These were the last survivors of their group of Celestials, and these Whills supposedly tapped into the power of mythical primordial cosmic beings that existed at the beginning of the universe, and so the Whills evolved into beings very similar to the Primordial Ones.

Their region of space is known as "The Whills Nebula", just outside the galaxy near Calamari Space. The Whills Nebula presents severe navigational challenges so was virtually cut off from the rest of the galaxy through out most of the millennia of the Republic. The Whills began to be worshipped as deities by a much younger sentient species native to the Nebula who developed a sector-wide civilization. Each Whill inhabits a major system of the Nebula.

Then about a thousand years ago, the sentient native species of the Nebula mysteriously disappeared. About 200 BBY, several species from the greater galaxy moved in and developed a new civilization in the ancient ruins of the previous one, with some societies also worshipping the Whills...

Spoiler alert

Was thinking about this thread after I read Darth Plagueis. A theory entertained by Darth Plagueis and indeed both Jedi and Sith was that the balance between light and dark was under the guidance of the Celestials, which merged themselves with the Force some thousands of years prior and have been guiding it ever since.

It sounds similar to what we were discussing in this thread. Like to get your thoughts on this.
