Hi guys,

I have some questions regarding the "Force Sight" of the Miraluka and the Similiar Force-Power "Sense Surroundings":

1. Do you have a 360° view with it?
2. How far can you "see" with that?

Thanks in advance Very Happy

I've always been of the opinion that a lot of the stuff that Dark Horse added to the EU was way over the top, including the Miraluka. To that end, I just ruled that Miraluka, although blind, can see just like everyone else, with the same limitations. They end up just like any other human.

In the past when i have seen them played, the gm had it their 'sight through the force' was a little better than normal eye sight.. They could see into the dark of night as if wearing low-light scopes... but not ir or uv. and definitely no 360 vision.

I'm not familiar with the Force power "Sense Surroundings"; refer me to the correct sourcebook or supplement, and I'll check it out. As far as Miraluka Force Sight:

As I understand it, no...but this is conjectural. Every single Miraluka is Force-sensitive, though only a relatively small number are trained in the ways of the Force (this is rationalized by the fact that, as a species, they "have no interest in personal gain or glory"). Those untrained in the Force only use their evolved use of the Force to see, and no actual powers. Of note is that, at least according to Wookieepedia, there are no Miraluka characters yet depicted in the Star Wars Universe that are not trained as Jedi (or Dark Jedi), which makes it a little bit more difficult to learn about "regular" Miraluka. Any time I have seen a Miraluka sensing someone behind him or her, though, it is portrayed as a trained (albeit subconscious use of that training) use of the Force (think "Danger Sense"), and not an innate ability afforded to all members of the species. Miraluka Force Sight does allow them to see regardless of visual hindrances such as fog or darkness, but from everything I've read (which has been admittedly limited, at least when it comes to stories involving Miraluka), they don't have X-ray vision, and only see in the direction their head is pointed. Still, being able to fight in complete darkness without any penalties is fairly huge, in my opinion. Just carry an EMP grenade with you and trigger it at the beginning of every fight; now everyone but you is fighting in the dark! Smile

Ah ok, i just see now that "Sense Surroundings" is a Houseruled Power (i found it here: http://d6holocron.com/wiki/index.php?title=Sense_Surroundings).

But yeah, seeing only into the direction you are facing kinda does make sense... It's unfornutate that it isn't really explained more anywhere, but its probabl just a "can see in the darkness" thing ^^ thx for that

Glad to have been helpful. As far as it making sense...honestly, since it's supposed to be an "evolved" ability, you would think that they'd be able to see in all directions, and have X-ray vision (since when does a wall block the Force?). The only thing I can think of that would explain this somewhat peculiar evolutionary path is that said evolution was interrupted by contact with the rest of the galaxy before the Miraluka as a species could reach their "full potential". In truth, the real answer is that Dark Horse just wanted to make up a blind Jedi that wasn't hindered by her blindness, and didn't really think it through (which is unsurprising).

And again, I'm not the Alpha and the Omega of knowledge when it comes to the Miraluka; if anyone has any more light to shed on the subject, please do.

Maybe they did it that way so as to not unbalance them.. Imagine someone who HAD 360 vision, with the capacity to see perfectly in the dark, through walls and all that... how could you realistically ambush or otherwise challenge them?

Thats y i asked "how far". Could image that you have 360° Sight for a range of like 5 or maybe 10 meter, but can see much farther in the direction you are currently looking... similiar how the sensors work, just that you can have passiv and search at the same time ^^

i would suggest looking through the saga books for details about "force sight," they expanded the ability quite a bit.

If one wants vision to be 'like normal humans' one could justify 'forward' rather than 360° vision by postulating an 'inner' or 'third eye' (as in some earth mystic traditions) as the source of their Force sight.

That's an interesting idea. And depending on how you adjust the ranges for 360°vision, Mirulaka might end up with a narrower than human* field of vision for distance (the range where they need to concentrate on one direction), but 360° for short and medium ranges. This would give an advantage for perception/search in the 360° range (say +2D), but a minus (due to a narrower visual field, say -1D) for any perception/search roll outside that range that are not single object specfic. One would also notice that Mirulaka don't turn their heads towards objects in their short/medium range unless they are focusing on the object whereas when 'watching' at a distance they would need to turn their heads to pan the terrain more than a human would.

* Humans appear to have a visual range of around 120° to 200°

Right. Story-wise, it was obviously to keep them in line with the other characters. I was merely pointing out that from a developmental standpoint, it made little sense (I know, I know...welcome to fiction created by Dark Horse).

Exactly. Dark Horse Comics: Founding Members of the Superweapon-Of-The-Month Club.
