A) You get 1 power per 1D of skills at character creation so 3D in a skill equals 3 powers.
B) You get 1 power for the first 1D in skill and then +1 power per pip thereafter so 3D in a skill = 7 powers. (I previously provided a list for all D codes from 1D to 3D for this position.)
C) You get 1 power per pip including the first 1D so 3D of skill = 9 powers.
Variations include people who see these positions as a Maximum for starting powers and that the actual starting powers might be lower. |

Honestly, I would handle a lot of that by the character's backstory. How much training did they have from a teacher vs. how much did they do in self-study. Those that were on the self-study end would have fewer Force powers, since they would have less opportunity to learn them. Those that would have a master in their backstory for a longer duration would have more Force powers.
Of course, if this was done in a RotE era, then the longer contact with a master means that they would have a path that would be more traceable by Vader. So, there would be give and take. _________________ __________________________________

That's an interesting take chesh.. Tie the # of powers learned aftr the initial 3 for each of the first D in the skills to a master, but the longer you trained, the more there is for those pesky jedi hunters to go off of. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I don't know if my answer is redundant (I'm a little bit tired and I've read only the first few posts in this topic), but I've had a similar question some time ago.
Maybe you find some answers here. |

I recently bought a copy of the Second Edition (not R&E) rulebook on eBay, and so I was able to look up the rules for character creation in it. I think this is why we have such strong and differing opinions on this subject; the Second Edition differs from the Revised and Expanded rules:
Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game - Second Edition (not R&E) wrote: | It takes a student ten weeks of intensive study and costs 20 Character Points to learn each Force skill. The character may reduce the training time by spending additional Character Points---each Point spent reduces the time by one day (the minimum training time is one day). Once the character has completed the training, the character gains the specific skill at 1D.
The character often gains some rudimentary abilities, and learns three of the Jedi powers for that skill; the student cannot attempt a power he hasn't learned. For more information, see the description of that specific skill. |
So in the original Second Edition, untrained Force-sensitive characters did in fact learn three Force powers upon training a given Force skill from "untrained" to 1D. As always, whether you go with the Second Edition rules or R&E (or your own house rules), the choice is yours. Personally, I think it makes more sense to learn just one Force power upon initial training, but that's me. For those of you that feel the same, just understand that those that feel otherwise have a basis in the Second Edition RAW for their views; they aren't just trying to be contrary. _________________ Arek | Kage |

Good find there!
Though I don't think anyone was really being contrary. Besides, giving three is still going by the RAW. Since giving three follows the "at least one" guideline. _________________ __________________________________

So the raw has it for base 2e you DO get 1d/3 powers when learning it, where the raw for 2eR has it where you get 1d/1power... interesting. As mentioned in that other thread linked, it seemed jedi got toned down. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Note that it says you get at least one if you have any Force skills. Not a 1:1 ratio of powers and skill dice. You could could award as many as the 2nd edition, or as few as you saw necessary. It's really very vague (probably intentionally so) in the R&E RAW. _________________ __________________________________

The text in 2R&E may be vague, but I'm not certain this was intentional. The character templates I listed earlier in this thread were neither vague nor varied; all templates followed the "one power granted for the initial 1D" model. So it is my thinking that they fully intended to tone them down. Though I have been known to make mistakes...from time to time. _________________ Arek | Kage |
