|
|
In my game (of which I'm taking over the forum about with questions to you good people) I have an Ewok who wants a pet Rancor.
Yes. Seriously.
No, it's not a serious game (as you might have read)
Now, whilst it,s no serious I think a fully fledged pet Rancor walking about Tatooine might raise a few eyebrows and perhaps a raise a few heavy weapons too.
However I am not opposed to having as a plot devise a mini rancor, either an infant or dwarf (from Knights of the Old Republic) but I haven't seen any stats for them (fan made) so I was wondering if anyone has any?
[edit: this is in the wrong part of the forum...*sigh* what a fail
Either that or or I'm thinking a young Nexu (perhaps reducing Darth Gry's stats for them by 1D in places?
Anyone have any suggestions? _________________ "The Force will be with you. Sometimes." |

I could see a dwarf (or baby) Rancor having -2D STR and a lower damage and armor bonus say somewhere around 1/2 the original,
I don't know that reducing the size is going to lower the orneriness* though - which is the relevant stat for training and for finding out if the Ewok ends up feeding his pet Rancor the hard way.
* I see that orneriness is not listed. I would estimate that a 5D orneriness feels about right to me. Scan through Garth's Creatures book and see what seems reasonable. Carnivores tend to have higher orneriness than herbivores and wild animals tend to have higher orneriness than domesticated animals. |

Quote: | Dathomirian Rancor
Home Planet: Dathomir
Attribute Dice: 14D
DEXTERITY 4D/6D
KNOWLEDGE 0D/1D
MECHANICAL 0D
PERCEPTION 1D/2D+2
STRENGTH 5D/8D
TECHNICAL 0D/1D
Special Abilities:
Armor: +3D to Strength to resist physical and energy
damage.
Claws: Does STR+3D damage.
Teeth: Does STR+5D damage.
Special Skills:
Dexterity Skills:
Melee weapons: clubs, trees: Time to use: One round.
Rancors use this skill and any of the above specializations
to wield large objects as melee weapons. Most of these
makeshift tools cause STR+1 Walker-scale damage.
Thrown weapons: boulders, nets, trees: Time to use:
One round. Rancors use this skill and any of the above
specializations to hurl objects generally considered too
heavy for humans to lift. Rancors throw most objects with
a range of 20-30/50/100 meters. Most objects will do 2D
Walker-scale damage.
Knowledge Skills:
Symbolic writing: Time to use: Variable. Rancors use this
skill to understand simple commands written by the
Witches of Dathomir. A rating of 4D or higher means the
rancor can write the language as well.
Story Factors:
Evolved: Dathomirian rancors have evolved over thousands
of years. Rancors encountered off of Dathomir will most
likely not be identical, though it is possible that a similar
evolution has taken place elsewhere in the galaxy.
Domesticated: Most of Dathomir’s rancors have been
domesticated by the human clans of the world. These
rancors are treated as loved pets, even friends, by their
human comrades.
Move: 25/40
Size: 8-10 meters

Why not just make it a young, evolved, domesticated version? That way you can brew up the stats yourselves, and not have to worry about stats like Orneriness, maybe the young domestic rancor thinks that the ewok is it's mother, kind of like ducks, the first thing they see they imprint on. _________________ RR

Back in the early 1990s my smuggler character was given a pet Pygmy Rancor by his NPC sister just to drive him nutz [there was a lot of sibling rivalry there].
The smuggler PC named the Rancor "Chomper." Chomper was about 6 ft tall. But when you looked a how hunched over Rancor's are you will realize that was a huge amount of body mass. I don't remember his stats, but I do remember that Chomper provided endless comic moments and was a useful Deus Ex Machina for the GM. _________________ - J.T. Swift

Anyone remember Fluffy? It looks like his baby brother is going to get some game time! _________________ __________________________________

With this rancor, have the players thought about food/drink requirements? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

No
Which is one of the reasons that I'm allowing it for the comedy game set on a desert planet.

Sentient or no, I think this guy is going to have a problem with that rancor.
Ever consider what would happen if a human being was stranded with no food on an alien planet populated entirely by sentient gingerbread men? _________________ __________________________________

Seriously, though, if you ever want inspiration for how this thing can work out in a game, just do a search for "Fluffy." The origin threads are so old that they've been deleted, but there's been a long-running inside joke about having a PC (or NPC) of a sentient rancor in a party. The rancor has, of course, been named Fluffy. _________________ __________________________________
