So, just out of curiosity... I just created an NPC with a mouth full of shark's teeth. He gets STR+1D damage for biting. If he were to use a force point while biting, would that turn to STR+2D?

Yup. Any physical attack (melee or brawl with natural weapons) only doubles the strength part. Not the + damage.

Hm... I would have thought it would be (STR+1D)X2 (since the Force point doubles anything that is a "part of the character").

Well i know for melee weapons it specifically says

Melee Weapons. Melee weapons are unusual, since damage
for the weapon is normally based on the user's Strength,
with a bonus for the weapon itself — roll double the Strength,
but do not double the weapon's damage.
Example: Thannik, with a Strength of 3D+2, is
using a vibro-ax (STR+2D damage). When Greg
spends a Force Point and Thannik hits with a
weapon, he rolls 6D+4 for his Strength, plus the
normal +2D for the weapon.

Claws are nothing more than hand held melee weapons on the character using their brawl skill.

Being that they are organic I'd assume it'd double their damage too.

You could argue that the force is following through that part of the person too, because it is apart of them.

No, Force pointsonly double STR and skill die codes. So a Karkardon, (for instance) shouldonly double it's STR dice, not the bonus for it's teeth.

Beingorganic has nothing to do with it. It's not like the teeth get sharper for a round.

Then why would someone suddenly be twice as strong as for a round ;P?

From how I understand Force Points, it is the living force following through your body that enhances you for that moment in time. Teeth are a part of that body.

I also looked at bite damage, and die codes, as not just how sharp the teeth are but the jaw structure too. That it all factored in to make some teeth +2 and some +1D

According to the RAW it doubles your skill dice and attribute dice. Tooth and claw damage bonuses are not skill or attribute dice. Similarly you wouldn't double the Rancor's armor bonus either.

All player characters begin the game with at least
one Force Point; gamemaster characters such as prominent
Rebel leaders, Force-users and major villains may
have several Force Points.
A player may spend one Force Point in a round; all
skills, attributes and special ability die codes are
doubled for the rest of that round.
Anything that's not part of the character—weapon
damage die codes, starship hull die codes and so forth
— is not doubled.

If you want to define the bite as a special ability of the species, then, yes, it would get doubled (I would tend to define it as a special ability, since other species don't get special bite attacks). RAW, p. 84.

Thanks for the citation. I still wouldn't double the bite. In general, creatures do far too much damage when compared with a blaster as is.

In addition, doubling special ability codes just adds that many more calculation steps. I'd probably skip this as well. In fact I think I have in the past. Wink

Although that might help explain that ferocious Shark-like leader in Water War.

And if it does double claws/bite, then it should also double natural body armors.

So it now depends on if something is considered a "special ability".

I7m not thrilled with the RAW on this. No wonder the Empire is so anti-alien. Some aliens can get really scarely if they can double up thier bonuses. For instance, a Verpine gets +4D with TEC skills when spending a FP. So any Verpine PC can spend an FP and roll at least 8D on any TEC skill, even if it is something they have no skill in. And doubling the body armor to +2D isn't bad either.

This opens a big can of worms, since almost any ability that a human doesn't have could be considered "special". For instance, a flyer might be able to double it's flight speed, while a ground creature can't do so with it's ground speed.

Humans seem to get short changed here, as none of thier abilities are considered special.

the way i like to understand it is the additional (+d) damage - not STR, sets a limit on the actual physical weapon ie if you double your strength then the weapon is on the verge of breaking BUT if you then add on the additional (+d) bonus then you are puuting too much force into the weapon and it will break/shatter/snap etc. just the way i like to rule it in my opinion. hope this makes sense?
