I don't know if this is keeping it closer to "Ideal" or "realistic" or not with going with the lower stats, as some of the sourcebooks have very good stats for some of its VIPs and some NPCs | One thing is to look at the publication dates of the WEG material. There was some significant stat, skill, and equipment inflation in the later materials compared to the earlier materials. |

Yes, and I felt it'd be better to stick to the earlier materials. Though this is something I figure I'll toss out to the community. A vote or something.
Would people prefer I take the earlier material? Or the Later?
Another reason I want to go with earlier is a lot of the SpecForce for the rebels is from earlier works. Rebel Alliance sourcebook. Using them with the typical alliance soldier from 2nd edition makes it pretty close. Though if I use the Typical alliance soldier from the trilogy sourcebook they are radical better then the SpecForce units.
I didn't think I'd actually start going today, but I already have SpecForce Marines, and SpecForce Pathfinders out of the way.
I wish I knew a place I could upload the document so everyone could get a preview of how I'm making it. |

Maybe include two fields in the database for (i) Source (and indication if it is WEG or a conversion from D20 or SAGA) and (ii) Publication Date. Then GMs can kind of figure it out for themselves. |

I would use the stats from Rules of Engagement for the Rebel SpecForce and most of the imperial stats. The stats are a little higher than they are in the Rebel Alliance source book. |

I checked them out, and they seem to be better even. Though I am using rules of engagment for the SpecForce.
Personally I want to bump up the SpecForce a little bit, because the regular Rebel soldiers are at 4D+2 blaster 4D+2 dodge. SpecForce people all right round 3D+2 to 3D+1. But in the end my goal here is not to put my spin on it but create something we can all use.
As GMS in our own games we can edit all we like. But I figure the tool can't really be bias on what I -think- should be the stats. |

Yeah, my take is that SpecForce troops would have +1D-2D in appropriate skills over standard rebel soldiers. I also personally think that Stormtroopers should be at +1D for their various skills as well. However, not all game masters would agree with me. |

I'd have to agree that the stats are erratic and inconsistent (though this is a known WEG flaw) and often as not seem weak, at least for the Stormtroopers & Rebels.
Having a go-to guide for all the stats as they are presented in the sourcebooks will be invaluable as a reference, and would enable quick lookups as needed, not to mention allow easy access to the write ups for the various NPCs.
However, I, as probably many others, have my own idea of what the stats should be and I for one have modded the Stormtroopers and Rebels to better represent what I think they should be without making them overly powerful (remembering that the PCs are the 'stars' of the 'show') and will default to my own stats in games.
Though the urge would be to 'correct' the stats, I think the important point would be listing them as is, allowing the GMs to use them or not as they see fit.
I have to say I'm excited to see them all grouped together in one place finally, even if my own stats take precedence!

Essentially I agree.
That is why, despite my urges, I am just going to put the stats in it as how WEG made them. Along side it I will be making my own "personal" one, which since this is a OpenOffice document it is very easy to edit or change.
I am mostly through all the SpecForce. I am designing it as two column "tables" where the stats are too the left, and then I am trying to find at least two pictures to represent the NPCs for the right side of the table.
I was able to get a jump start on this, but.... As people pointed it is a huge tasks, and will probably take me a while . So I'll post updates every now and then, and if I figure out a way to upload the document somewhere for people to get a preview I'll do that.
(Well, now that I think of it. Anyone can private message me and ask me to email them a preview. The size of the document is small enough now that I can send it.) |

I look forward to your updates!
As to creating a personal version, I'd be almost as interested in that as the 'straight' version, mainly as I'd like to see how other people's interpretations compare to my own. But that may just be me...

I'm interested in what other folks have, but how do you represent that? There are potentially hundreds of different viewpoints on this board alone.... _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

If people are interested by all means I will release what "I" think some of the stats should be. The system I made myself follow is I can only adjust attributes here and there, and that will adjust skills. But for the most part I will focus on the straight from WEG.
Though now I have a question I have to throw out. Should I include the NPCs from the Rebellion Era Campaign guide?
I have put in about three now, and... They seem very out of place. It is a fan conversions and I feel like to have a "complete" list I should include them. But I'm wondering if I should just stick to a "complete list of WEG" released, instead. |

I would stick with just the WEG material for now. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

That is what I'm leaning too.
The Rebel section should be done relatively quickly too. I figure at minimum I will do two NPCs each day. I will probably always do more, but just in case I am busy for a while the collective won't just come to a halt. |

I think this is a product of the general idea of NPC powers evolving over time. In the 80s the view of NPCs was still 'contaminated' with the AD&D idea that non-specific NPCs should be very weak. Just look at the main Bounty Hunters in Tatooine Manhunt for example. They have one good skill, a couple acceptable and several completely missing. They were ment to be 'challenging' at best, and the non specific ones where just made to be cannon fodder. Over time the RPG collective mentality overcame this flaw, making NPCs more powerful and in many cases more powerful than the NPCs. This forces PCs to adopt other ways of approach than direct confrontation. _________________ My Biggest Beard Retard award goes to: The Admiral of course.. |

Remove the -1D dex penalty for ST armour (for Stormtroopers) and you have the same effect (combat wise) without raising skill levels. With all that time walking around in their armours I assume they are unhindered by it. _________________ My Biggest Beard Retard award goes to: The Admiral of course.. |
