Something occurred....
Since the whip techniques seem to work so well, why not have them for other weapons? I was thinking more like types (like bladed, ranged, etc). For instance bladed weapons: stab, slash, and throw. Ranged might include quick reload and double-tap. There would/could be more (or less....I guess).
Whaddya think? _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

Well for pole-axe type weapons you could have vault, sweep/trip, ranged fighting and all sorts of other moves.
I really do like the work done with the whip though it makes the weapon as cinematic as we all know it can be. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

In fact I have developed similar mechanics for lightsabers (which wound up being too cumbersome when used with Lightsaber Combat rules). I have some for cinematic swordplay, and ideas for other techniques.
However, I've already published the swordplay stuff on another site and I wanted to do something new, and something that would be applicable in all genres. Now, as much as I could release some of my other ideas through D6 Magazine, I don't know that it's in my best interest to do so. The specialization and technique mechanic is a good one (something that I borrowed from ROE), but if I published those other ideas, I could look like a writer who was a one trick pony.
I've got something new for my next article. It won't transfer into Star Wars quite as easily, but it should be amusing nonetheless. Don't worry, though... I've got a few Star Wars mini campaigns that I'll be putting out if the D6 Magazine does well. _________________ __________________________________

It starts to look too much like D20 feats, which is way to many rules and exceptions for me.
But I suppose it could be fun if the GM and players like that level of detailed mechanics. |

The only thing I didn't like about Feats is how many there were compared to how few you could actually get. If they were tied to skills, I'd be a little more interested, but I like the idea of them being more limited in scope, such as being tied to use with a specific skill, rather than something broad-spectrum like feats. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Heh... and if it doesn't do well, then I'll find some other way of putting it out. _________________ __________________________________

Also, Cheshire, what does your D6 mag have in terms of editing staff? Out of curiosity, do you have a resident professional or journalism major or anything of the like, or is it solely fan-produced?
I ask only because (and I don't mean to criticize too harshly, I appreciate the hard work you all have put into the magazine) the layout and copy-editing could use just a bit of work. There's a bit of excess of white space on a handful of pages, and it seems that the headers are bunched in a couple places as well. This is, of course, from a picky perspective. The content is all well and fine, it is just the presentation that could be fine tuned. _________________ Also known as Kiss My Wookiee on Discord and Reddit. |

I encourage all formatting issues and offers to help with editing to go to submissions[.at.]d6magazine[.dot.]com. That will put you in touch with the editor. _________________ __________________________________

I just came back and read through my post and I hope I didn't sound turse. I appreciate any help that you could give to the project. I know that the editor has a heart for making this the best that he can. I can't speak for his experience or training. Anyone that I've talked to has raised similar concerns about the formatting and layout. So I do encourage you to offer any help that you can. I don't know much about how he responds to constructive criticism, though I don't think it will hurt to add a professional's perspective. I know that his goals are to having this look like a professional, marketable publication. _________________ __________________________________

No no, I completely understand. I've been there before and it isn't fun for someone to come forward and bash your publication. I didn't mean to be high and mighty, either. I'm just trying to improve the overall quality.
And I'd be willing to consult a bit and help with it, but I'm not quite a professional either. I have had plenty of experience with editing and copy-editing publications, and currently have two years of collegiate journalism education under my belt. I could pull out my old AP Style Handbook and dust if off though. _________________ Also known as Kiss My Wookiee on Discord and Reddit. |
