With the most potent listed BOOK stat for plasma rifles/flame throwers being barely better than a standard blaster pistol, with the range of a pistols SHORT range bracket, i wouldn't fear them one bit.

Funny you should mention that. I am using just such troops in my land battle. I'm giving my player a clue in that they'll carry force pikes as well as standard stormtrooper equipment.
As for the one I most fear, I'd say a standard Stormie throwing a thermal detonator at someone else.
