Here's my take on the TIE Striker from the Rogue One project (yes it is still alive, just about and yes it is taking forever - sorry).

TIE Striker
The experimental TIE/sk, or TIE striker as it is more commonly known as, manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems is designed from the ground up as an air superiority fighter and is optimized for atmospheric combat operations. The striker is capable of undertaking several combat roles effectively including dogfighting, interdiction and ground attack. This is a bold departure from normal Imperial military doctrine that calls for a large number of specialized starships. Consequently, the striker has few supporters amongst the upper levels of the admiralty who broadly view it as distasteful and a wasteful use of resources. Imperial pilots, however, are enamored with the nimble fighter that can handle most combat situations while also coming with a large, pressurized cockpit and emergency repulsors designed to soften crash landings.
More than twice the size of TIE/In at over seventeen meters in length, the striker is departure from most of the TIE series in design and features an elongated, lozenge-shaped fuselage bracketed by a pair of servo-mounted wings. These variable geometry s-foil wings, similar in shape to those found on the TIE interceptor, automatically position themselves for optimum performance and are covered in corrugated solar collector arrays to maximize the surface area. Forward thrust is provided by twin ion engines that are supplemented by advanced and specialized repulsorlifts to improve its atmospheric performance. Combined, these engines allow the striker to reach a top speed of 1,500 kilometers per hour, making it significantly faster than TIE interceptor. Unfortunately, the performance of the repulsorlifts significantly degrade as the striker soars further away from a gravity well, making nearly every design feature a liability in space combat with a sharp drop off in both speed and agility.
The striker’s enlarged cockpit houses a pilot and gunner sitting in tandem, albeit the gunner is optional and is only normally used when undertaking ground attack operations. Alternatively, the gunner station can be used to carry a small amount of cargo or a single passenger. Some strikers have also been modified to extend the magazine for the proton bomb chute or replaced the chute entirely with an orbital mine dispenser by removing the gunner station.
Like the TIE interceptor, the striker is equipped with four fire linked L-s9.3 laser cannons that are primarily used by the pilot for dogfighting with one mounted on each wing tip and two below the cockpit viewport. The striker also features a pair of chin mounted H-s1 heavy blaster cannons and a ventral bomb chute for VL-61/79 proton bombs, both of which are normally operated by the gunner for attacking ground targets.
Despite the TIE striker’s impressive and flexible combat capability, particularly in planetary theatres, it is mired in the admiralty’s rigidity to Imperial military doctrine and is unlikely to see wider adoption by the Imperial Navy. Ironically, its adaptability is probably more suited to the growing Rebel Alliance, particularly with its relatively low cost. The striker squadrons that are in the service of the Empire are usually deployed to defend important Imperial planetary facilities in conjunction with other TIE squadrons.
