Honestly, when I was playing with my group years ago, we didn't use miniatures. We used whatever SW figures and ships we could find, plus a host of GI Joe figures we'd buy, disassemble, then reassemble in whatever manner suited us. We painted them up and had them looking quite spiffy, if I do say so myself. We also used some GI Joe vehicles/ sets, but couldn't use quite so many of them. Mostly we used the B.A.T. base and a lot of figures. But I can see where the miniatures would come in handy for a better utilization of space. We just never had to worry about it. |

I have 500+ WEG minis. I'm not going to change now. I just wish WotC would have kept a common scale. If they had, I would have added their miniatures to WEG's. But Noooooo, they have to alienate both the RPGers and the Star Wars Miniatures Battles players.
Squad boxes would have been nice, too. _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.

Sing it, bro! It's ALWAYS nice to have large numbers of trooper figures already set up to go. The way we were doing it we had to find large numbers of either stormtrooper figures or a certain Cobra figure that we repainted to resemble stormies. Squad sets are so much easier! |

Pity they don't make them any more. And its also a pity that the new sets are not made in squad form.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Chello!
I've got to go with the currrent market and say WotC's collectibles.....I have over 150.....mostly commons.....stromies, clonies, aliens, "roger-rogers".
I never got into the WEG minis....I have 1 set each of Stormies, naval troopers, imp officers, heavy blaster cannon, and 2 sets of zero-g stormies.
But that's just me.....ymmv.....I tried the d20 game for a bit and see where I'm posting now....lol.

Anyone know of a site that still offers those WEG collections? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Me, if/when I use miniatures, I'll use whatever I have available, handy, or can readily find, even if it is not from a star wars line. As long as the miniature reflects the feel and concept of what I am using it for. I was pondering laying my hands on some of the WotC figures, but have not yet, as I am still procuring books. I have a substantial collection of old WEG miniatures, the old Micro-machines sets, and many old Kenner die-casts from that era gone by _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

I'm using the new minis, simply because they're available and I don't have the time or patience to paint the minis I have (Ogre), let alone track down OOP WEG ones.
How much bigger are the WOTC minis than the WEG ones? Is there that much of a difference that one couldn't just scale up the rules for Miniature Battles? I never played the mini game back in the day, hence the question. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

We've made extensive use of the SW Micro Machine collection.
They look great!
At the time the were inexpensive, but one can still get good deals on them.
Stormtroopers came in packs of ten!
Might be a good alternative if you're not terribly concerned with scale. _________________ Aha! |
