Since my adnd group may be getting upwards of 6 players now, i am thinking my 6ft by 4ft ovalish table, may not be enough.. so i may upgrade and get two square 4ft by 4ft tables, to stick side by side.
Anyone know of decent stores to do that??

Go big and get a combination dining/gaming table.

Here's a less expensive version with multiple upgrade options.

I would try Ollie's or Big Lots.
Failing that, Get a friend with a circular saw, some saw horses, and some plywood and make a table (that's how I made my wargame table).

Target online lists an adjustable 4ft table for $39.99

I checked biglots, and what i saw didn't impress me. Most were round, or oval.. Not thought about Ollie's.. Have to look them up.

Both Big Lots and Ollies can be pretty hit or miss. I got lucky a few times, but other times strike out. Their stock can be pretty unpredictable because of the whole clearance/overstock store thing.

I have a large group - six people (gm + five players).

I put two 72" x 30" long folding tables side by side, and we use that.
Works well and gives lots of space (about 5' wide, by 6' long).

If you have on a tile or hardwood floor, and are worried about them shifting, I put a clamp underneath to keep them together.

Get them at walmart, home depot, etc.

When not being used, fold up and put in closet.

I might just have to go that route.

I can say, there are even version that fold in half for easy storage.

However, I suggest the more sturdy versions that only have folding legs - as they just feel more "firm" with players leaning on them, etc.

They used to be (years ago) about $40, but are about $50-80 now, depending on where you get them (amazon, wal-mart, homedepot, etc.).

The good thing - they are used for just about anything else.
Extra worktable in the garage, painting table for hobby days, bigger board games (think lords of water deep or scythe, that need more room) that don't fit comfortably on my dining table, or during cookouts for food, big craft projects for the kids, etc.

So, while they are not cheap - they have a lot of other utility at home.

best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

That's fantastic. It's always good when player contribute to a game group that way.

AND it may be moot, as our potental sixth player, dropped out before he even got started.. With family and work, he don't think he can get many weekends off to game.

If you're going to go the build route, maybe try something like this:

Cut a 1' x 4' section out of the center of one long edge of a 4' x 8'. Cut it in half to make two 1' x 2' pieces. Cut down a 1" x 3" or 1" x 4" board to add the 1' x 2's to the ends to make a U shape. You sit in the middle of the U with your GM screens in front of you and your players all around you.

Optional: Cut the corners off at a 45 to keep everyone more equidistant from you. Maybe even add part of the 45 cutoffs to the inside of the U for your own comfort.
