Originally begun as a cheaper off-shoot of the Corellian Gunship, the Assault-Class Gunboat began to find its own niche in the starship market. Up to date technology and modernized design make this ship not nearly as expensive as the Gunship, however it is not as heavily armed. Also, the Gunboat requires far less crew and for its size still packs a considerable punch. Some chose not to acquire the vessel to their fleets due to the turret limitations. That being said, some systems chose to employ it as an addition to System Patrol Craft or as escort vessels running picket duty for large convoys hoping to avoid losses to pirates or marauders.
Using this vehicle
Like its larger Corellian Gunship cousin, the AC-3500 is a potent warship, able to take on ships larger than itself.
Adventure and Encounter Seeds
• The PCs must form the core of the senior officers of an AC-3500. If this is a longer running adventure, they can be given any variety of missions and tasks. If this is a short adventure, they might be ferrying the ship to where it’s permanent crew is waiting, but not before complications arise.
• The PCs are at a construction site where Rebels are building AC-3500s with several complete and most nearing completion. Suddenly a force assaults the field and attempts to steal them. The PCs must stop them.
GM Note: Based on a ship seen in the closing cut scene of the "Star Wars Rebellion" video game (watch it here, about 1:40 https://youtu.be/Lyt1YjF7OQU), my friend and SWRPG GM, drew this ship and gave her WEG stats. Now, I know about the VCX-820, which I think might be based off the same ship, but my friend drew this in 2000 just on what was seen in the game. The ship seen in the game is different than the VCX-820.
