Hey all-- I'll soon be running a generally ground-combat special forces-style (at least at first) campaign, and am hoping to get some ideas for questions that will likely come up and/or plausible consequences of the following "divergence point" that I decided on after considerable research:

During the events of the TCW episode "Crisis on Naboo" (season 4 ep 18), Naboo explodes. No characters in the campaign will know why, at least not for a good long while.*

This takes the following major players off the Clone Wars board: Palpatine, Dooku, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Amidala, Cad Bane--and depending on which specific day it happens, potentially also Mace Windu, Ahsoka, Bail Organa, and Mas Amedda.

Here is what I've pretty much decided on so far:
- Dooku and the CIS get blamed
- the CIS covers up Dooku's death and uses an imposter who makes a big show of "retiring" from the Head of State position
- Grievous's influence allows Wat Tambor to succeed Dooku instead of the other most likely candidate, Gunray
- the gradual realization that Sidious must have been Palpatine, due to how quiet Sidious suddenly got, will come to Grievous, Gunray, and the Jedi Council
- Ventress's return to the Nightsisters proceeds without incident--and now that he's without anything to avenge himself upon, Maul probably joins them
- with the two main drivers of the war gone, both sides move toward peace (which among other things requires Grievous to be assassinated by order of Tambor, since Grievous would never stop fighting)
- a truce and eventual treaty divides the galaxy into coreward and rimward "halves": the CIS gets the Outer Rim and probably some Mid Rim pockets, the Republic gets the Core through most of the Mid Rim, and Wild Space becomes "neutral"/unclaimed/contested
- the rest of the campaign hinges on the tensions between the two legitimate galactic governments and everybody's shared dread about a second war
- Sidious's in-the-know and actually-loyal flunkies (e.g. Sly Moore) will try to bring him back via cloning, with suboptimal results at best

And obviously (this is by player request) no Empire and no Jedi Purge. I haven't decided anything about "extragalactic" threats like the Chiss/Vong but they're not high on my get-to-it-early list.

* = If you're curious, the cause of all this is a far-future Force-user who learns how to jump around in time via the World-Between-Worlds and becomes obsessed with "setting things right" after looking at the last several generations, deciding a "kill the Hitlers" approach is the only option. They bring along a fancy chemical weapon that interacts with Naboo's plasma+ocean core to trigger a catastrophic chain reaction. For mythic resonance, and to make this all feel more Star Warsy and less Star Trekky, I'm seriously considering having this individual be a Skywalker descendant, who likely traps themself in this alternate timeline in the process (I guess because *handwave* they can't get back to the W-B-W once they annihilate their own forebears).

So, like I said...what are some things I may not have considered?

With no sideous, no empire, no clone wars etc, what happens TO the clone troops being made by kamino?
Also, will that 'skywalker' be the only one who ever learns that 'world beyond worlds' power?
What happens to the jedi council, afterwards? Will this be before or after the gungans help naboo try to defeat the trade federation (phantom menace film)??

That will be a big point of contention for the Republic Senate post-war Smile

Very possibly, now that you mention it! Good call.

Definitely after; the "Festival of Light" episode takes place roughly 1/4th of the way through the war's final year. I imagine the surviving Gungans and Naboo (those who were offworld, such as on the colonies in the system) will band together, and a number will join up with the Grand Army.

As for the Council, their main priorities after the treaty would have to be (1) establishing a "Rim Temple," or perhaps more accurately persuading the CIS congress to permit them to; and (2) recruitment--it's well established in pre- and post-Mouse Canon that the Jedi's numbers were really hurt by the war. And re: 1, I like that this notion offers both hope and threat. The Jedi could turn out to be the factor that prevents a second war--or triggers it.

I could see them pushing too far, and causing a 2nd war..
