Hutt Space is something that frequently comes up and is always shown very prominently on galactic maps.
What exactly was its status during the Old Republic and the Empire? Was it a separate sovereign state or an autonomous region, or a purely traditional concept with no legal status? _________________ "Adventure? Eh... Excitement? Eh... A Jedi does not crave these things."

Wookieepedia is your friend. That Legends article is a nice summary and I recommend it. The Hutt Empire pre-existed the Old Republic. The Old Republic and the Empire never outright controlled Hutt Space, no.
Quote: | LEGENDS - Hutt Space was an autonomous region of the galaxy on the border between the Mid Rim and the Outer Rim Territories, near the entrance to Wild Space... | Quote: | CANON - Hutt Space was an autonomous region of the galaxy on the border between the Mid Rim and the Outer Rim Territories that was located to the galactic east of the Core Worlds, and was under the control of the Hutt Clan... |

Nope. The empire or old republic never controlled it... Hell they mostly stayed away, based on the novels. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

The Hutts defeated Zim the Despot centuries before the Old Republic and The Slice were even close to Hutt Space. I would argue there would be no Slice if not for the Hutts luring explorers from the central galactic civilizations towards them. When the New Republic is venerable and dying, the Hutts will still be in power. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance
