What did Han fire at that TIE that buzzed them just before they discovered the first Death Star in Episode IV? It seemed to be some kind of weapon mounted to the top of the cockpit... and it sounded different than a laser. Kind of booming. Anybody know what that was? |

There is evidence of a similar shot in ROTJ. Some have speculated a forward pair of laser cannon (even appearing on the full size toy, IIRC). _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

I thought that was his concussion missile launcher. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I thought the missiles fired from the center-front of the ship. This shot appears to come from directly over the cockpit. I can’t find canon info on this anywhere. It’s odd. |

I always assumed that that was the TIE strafing the Falcon, and the booms were the noise of the impact against the hull/shields. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I rewatched the scene.
To me it looks like the Falcon deplys something, and I would be inclined to say some for of defense, maybe some form of "chaff" to put it in "earth" terms.
The TIE seems to pass straight above and close, maybe even shooing ( most likely)
The other thought that came to me was deflector shields, han turning it on, angling it, "just in time" with the "blast" being the impact of the bolt on the just applied shield. |

ROTJ, not ANH. The Falcon turns toward a TIE during the battle of Endor and 2 bolts hit it seemingly from amidships. _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

+1. I always assumed that was the TIE firing at the Falcon with a near miss just off the Falcon's cockpit or otherwise the hit glancing off the Falcon's shield. Because, after all, why would Han fire his forward weapon while the TIE was still behind them? _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies
Only some of it is for D6 Star Wars.
Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |
