I was thinking about Parkour aka free Running, and was wondering what skill to use.
Should I try to make Parkour a skill, a specialization or mabye an advanced skill, I don't know, but parkour is cool |

Yeah, I figured both running and Climbin/Jumping and maybe even acrobatics to some extent.
I was looking for a way to maybe only have one roll rather than multiple rolls, but idk. |

IMO, there’s room there for an Advanced Skill with Running and Climb/Jump as prerequisites. Maybe (A) Acrobatics, covering extreme agility stuff like fall damage reduction, pole vaulting, trapeze/rope swinging, etc.
Didn’t 1E D&D have Acrobat as a character class? Might be a place to look for ideas... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

Not in the core books but I recall that it was first introduced in Dragon Magazine. It probably did eventually make into a supplement. garhkal may know. _________________ *

Found a description for AD&D’s Thief Acrobat. Some interesting possibilities for fleshing out an Advanced Skill there... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. IMO, Parkour comes down to four things:
Balance
Jumping
Climbing
Agility
Running is the "balance" skill in this game, so there's that.
Agility isn't really covered other than by the Dex attribute.
Acrobatics is actually a base skill already and I remember reading about some race (maybe cathar?) that gets a bonus to Acrobatics checks.
Its a strength skill by RAW, by the way. |

Per the RAW, Acrobatics as a normal skill is only available to the Trianii species, so obviously all those human acrobats out there are in for a shock. REUP made it a generally available skill, but IMO, what Acrobats do is sufficiently above and beyond normal use of Running, Climbing and Jumping to merit being an Advanced Skill. As with First Aid and (A) Medicine, there will be some task overlap (see bacta tank operation) but at different difficulty levels. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. SO if it's an advance skill for all BUT Tiranni, what's its base skill? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

No, it’s removed from the Trianii template, and is now an Advanced Skill for everyone; the Trianii just are uniquely suited to utilizing it due to racial bonuses. The prerequisites would be Agility (Running and Dodge for those who prefer the RAW version) and Climb/Jump, probably at 5D each. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I would actually have Acrobatics and even controtiions as normal skills, with types of acrobatics as spacializations.
The reson is we have quite a few human acrobats of various types, be them gymansts, or in ropes, or on chairs , even many of the "balancing" acts are acrobatics.
Now I could see Parkour as an advanced skill much like some use Martial arts ( given the bonuses they give compared ot other "mere specializations" and that they actually meancically work as advanced skills, you add martial arts to brawling, not in lieu of as with normal specializations)
so I am then thinking this to be under climbing or running, either or even both at 5D, with at least 3D to actrobatics, allowing someone trained to make very acrobatic parkour moves without being the classic gymnast or ballancer |

I don't disagree. But I am not aware that the skill is species specific. Do you have a book/page number? |
