Lowqrr is a wookiee scout and security expert during the Purge. His primary purpose in life is to protect a young woman whose contribution to the Rebel Alliance will one day have significant impact.
Early Life
Lowqrr was born into the She'tal'lakk tribe on Kashyyyk. Even in his youth, his relative strength and physical prowess were remarkable, even for a wookiee. He was unusually agile for a member of his species. This trait combined with his great strength made him an excellent candidate for the tribe's elite protectorate group, referred to by scholars as The Cadre, but among the She'tal'lakk, the group had no name. Over the years, he was groomed by the elders for such service, which was the most prestigious post a She'tal'lakk warrior could achieve.
As a youth, he demonstrated particular competence in tracking and hunting, as well as ambush tactics. He was enthusiastic about his martial training, quickly mastering both combative techniques and tactical applications for wruushi (wookiee unarmed combat), wroshbowr (bowcaster marksmanship), and especially wroshryyk (ryyk blade combat).
As soon as he had completed his coming of age ceremony, he was confronted by Grolfflor, The Cadre's chief, and the most respected warrior in the tribe. Grolfflor explained that in order to join The Cadre, he must face him in single combat. Lowqrr enthusiastically agreed, and accepted each challenge that Grolfflor offered. Lowqrr lost against Grolfflor in every match of wruushi, wroshbowr and wroshryyk. However, Grolfflor did not require Lowqrr to beat him in order to be considered worthy. Instead, he was looking for Lowqrr's sense of wookiee pride, his mastery of his own emotions, and most importantly, an unwillingness to quit no matter what. These traits were so ingrained in Lowqrr from an early age that they were readily apparent throughout the trial, and Grolfflor and the rest of The Cadre welcomed Lowqrr as a brother into their circle.
Adult Life
Lowqrr served with Grolfflor and his brothers for several years. His duties as a member of The Cadre included fighting off rival tribes, attacking hostile forces detected in the local area and organizing and testing the security of the village. But his most important duty was the security of the tribe's elders. While The Cadre were few in number, their primary focus was on protecting the tribe shaman and the tribe chief. Other warriors from the tribe were usually responsible for protecting the other elders under the auspices and direction of The Cadre.
Lowqrr acquitted himself well as a member of The Cadre, though to say he stood out among them would be an embellishment. In truth, The Cadre were so carefully selected and rigorously trained that any wookiee not fit for the duty would either die in training or else wash out prior to final selection. Each and every member of the elite group was an exemplar of She'tal'lakk values and wookiee pride. To be counted among them was a testament to an individual's physical, mental and emotional supremacy among the members of his tribe.
The Clone Wars
Lowqrr fought valiantly during the Clone Wars, participating in many raids and strikes on separatist installations. He is credited with leading several infiltration missions which undermined the separatist agenda all over the galaxy. He was home on a security rotation when Order 66 was given. His task was to oversee the security detail of one of the tribe elders, placing him out of reach of the chief and the shaman. When Lowqrr realized what had happened, he entrusted the protection of the elders with his subordinates and rushed to the aid of the shaman. When he arrived, he discovered to his horror, that the shaman and Grofflor had been killed, and Malth'k'la, a guest of the shaman and member of the Baran-Do Sages survived and was defending his position against the traitorous clone troopers. Just as Lowqrr arrived, Rogworl, the last surviving Cadre member, was killed by a grenade blast. Overcome with grief and rage, Lowqrr set upon the squad of clones and tore them to pieces. He resolved to go down in a blaze of glory, killing as many troops as he could before dying.
Malth'k'la sensed the wookiee's intentions and reached into his mind to offer him an alternative solution. Malth'k'la told Lowqrr that he could either die nobly in battle and kill a dozen or so clones in the process, or could join with him and deliver strategic attacks against the occupying force which would set them back weeks or months if successful. Lowqrr agreed to join Malth'k'la. The kel-dor sage used his precognitive abilities to foresee and sense the strategy of the clone commanders and discern their specific locations. Starting with an attack on the communications center, Lowqrr stealthily approached and assaulted the troops inside, effectively rendering the occupying force deaf, blind, and dumb. The two then proceeded to locate and kill every officer, from the top down until the local command structure had been completely wiped out. Without direction, the clone force devolved into a collection of little more than thugs with heavy weapons, and the She'tal'lakk wookiees routed their enemy decisively thereafter. It was months before the empire was able to regain a foothold on that area of Kashyyyk, and many of the wookiees who escaped capture hail from the She'tal'lakk tribe, thanks to Lowqrr and his new friend, Malth'k'la. For his help, Lowqrr swore a life debt to Malth'k'la, and served him loyally until the day of his charge's death.
Incidentally, that day came when Lowqrr, Malth'k'la and one of his proteges from the Alderaan Academy were in search of an ancient relic with a mysterious affect on the force. It was in the search for this relic that the three encountered the inquisition, who were also searching for it, and Malth'k'la gave his life to ensure the survival of Inari Findlay, a young woman with an adventurous spirit. Malth'k'la's last instructions to Lowqrr were to protect Inari at all costs, and in doing so, he would consider Lowqrr's life debt paid in full.
Lowqrr now serves Inari as faithful fulfillment of his previous life debt, and in short order has become fond of the young woman, counting her as his only true friend.
Personality
Lowqrr is stoic and prideful. He speaks rarely, and when he does, he says only enough convey the essence of his meaning, preferring to act rather than deliberate. He is fiercely loyal to those who have earned his trust and he values honor above all else.
Notable Skills and Abilities
Training and Experience
Lowqrr is strong, quick and agile. He is also trained to be sensitive to his surroundings and pay attention to tiny details. His spacial awareness is highly developed and he is ever ready to respond to any surprises or sudden changes in circumstances.
He has learned to discern the motives of others and recognize when things are not what they seem. This ability makes him an effective protector as well as a scout.
He is adept at stealth and subversion, making him a competent infiltrator, reconnoiterer and assaulter.
Combat
Lowqrr is a well-rounded fighter, being highly proficient in unarmed combat, with the bowcaster, and with the ryyk blade. As potent as he is in all areas of fighting, he is most skilled with the ryyk blade; however, he relies primarily on wruushi—unarmed combat—since his own ryyk blade was broken in a duel with a wookiee from a rival tribe years ago. According to She'tal'lakk tradition, a wookiee must forge his own ryyk blade and must use that ryyk blade exclusively for life. If he ever loses a duel, he must surrender his ryyk blade, which has the same meaning as being slain in the duel.
Even though Lowqrr won the duel against the other wookiee despie the destruction of his blade, the terms of the duel required that the victor be decided by “brorwrrg” (that is, “breath in the lungs” by wookiee tradition).
Lowqrr therefore honorably won the duel according to the terms. In such cases, the actual death of a duelist required that his ryyk blade be buried with him, since his honor remained intact on the basis of a valorous death. The only way to earn back the right to wield a ryyk blade is to defeat another wookiee in a ritual duel in which both opponents agree to the terms of wroshryyk: meaning that any participant who possesses a ryyk blade must use it, and one who does not, must fight unarmed. If the unarmed wookiee wins, he gains claim to the loser's ryyk blade, as well as the right to forge a new ryyk blade, if he so chooses. As of late, Lowqrr has not had opportunity to challenge another wookiee to the wroshryyk, and so continues to rely on wruushi when melee combat is required.
Even though he is proficient with modern blaster weaponry, Lowqrr prefers to wield his bowcaster when ranged combat is necessary, having crafted it himself and learning every nuance of the weapon's soul. His marksmanship is impressive, and combined with the raw power of the bowcaster, he scarcely needs more than one shot to solve any problem that requires a ranged attack.
