OK, it's been a long, long time since I've done Star Wars, so am quite rusty on some things.
My group (well, one of my groups) operates out of a mobile shipyard (topping out the Corvette size/mass limits, edging on Frigate) for starfighters, and is also intended as a back-up flight command and control centre with extensive sensors and communications gear.
So, I hunted up a droid that would look like an air traffic controller to be the flight officer in charge of that part of the bridge while the rest of the group did a lot of other roles. This is what I found that I love. I figure the top of her head can spin a full 360, and might even have low-rez 360 vision at all times until it's time to focus the red eye on what is important.
So, how should I stat her out? |

Well, the first step is pick several skills that the droid should excel at.
As a flight controller, it probably needs:
Sensors (Detect incoming ships)
Communication (communicate with incoming ships)
Bureaucracy (Determine landing priority for incoming ships)
Typically with droids, they have 1D in all non-essential stats, then 3D or so in their primary attributes.
Then give the droid anywhere from 1D-3D in appropriate skills and you're done. _________________ RR

If you're interested, a simple house rule I came up with for Flight Controllers was that a ship operating under the instruction of Flight Control receives a +1D bonus to a single Piloting skill (as appropriate) per round. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. A great writeup! Do the dataprobe fingers act like a scomp link? Also, what do you think about adding a bit of Willpower to resist wheedling spacers trying to jump the traffic control line? _________________ Aha! |

They have: THE BOOK! Written in stone, and hardwired into their processors. There shall be no deviation, there shall be retaliation for deviation, there will be missile detonations for deviation!!! |

LOL!
I considered that, and then remembered that Friend Computer would never order loyal Citizens to summary termination. Only Commie Mutant Traitors are terminated. The Computer is NEVER wrong.
Paranoia flashbacks aside, do droids need Willpower or something similar to resist con and persuasion? I'm thinking yes, but we hardly ever see a droid with that specific skill. _________________ Aha! |

As I envisioned them, yes they act as SComp links or a direct computer interlink. Your flavor may vary, but in essence, it allows for easier computer interfacing.
Nah on the willpower. Its a droid and while performing its hardwired job it will perform that job within those parameters until countermanded by someone with more authority or a situation in which overriding protocols come into play.

I've used willpower to allow droids to resist hacking attempts, as well as a sort of substitute for "remain conscious" force power when attempting to resist their programming and/or restraining bolts. If you do this, be sure to start with fairly high difficulties, because if they get too low, droids will go amok. _________________ "The universe is driven by the complex interaction between three ingredients: matter, energy, and enlightened self-interest."

Tactics for a combat flight controller, certainly, but for a civilian air traffic controller, not so much. IMO, a better approach would be to treat it like a Coordination, so that on a successful Command roll, the ship pilot receives an appropriate coordination bonus. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation.
