Been working on converting some FFG stuff and I revisited the narrative aspect of the dice mechanics. This is not meant to be a 100% accurate conversion but a quick and efficient way to introduce those elements to dice pools.

Comments and recommendations appreciates.

Narrative Aspects: Using Edge of the Empire Narrative Dice Mechanic in Star Wars D6
One of the most intriguing elements of FFG’s Star War game dice pool resolution is the narrative element represented by generating: Advantages, Triumphs, Threats, and Despair. These elements are spent by both the players and GM alike to introduce advantages or disadvantages in a scene.

During the game, player’s and GM create a dice pool and total the dice normally. Additionally, each die in the pool has the possibility of generating one of the narrative elements. Normal dice each generate a Threat on 1 and an Advantage on a 6. The Wild die generates a Despair on a 1 and a Triumph on a 6. If a 6 is rolled, the Wild die explodes and is rolled again, added to the dice pool total and the narrative element noted. This is repeated each time a 6 is rolled on the Wild die.

Normal Die/Wild Die
1 = Threat/Despair
6 = Advantage/Triumph

Advantages and Threats cancel each other out. Note how many Advantage or Threats remain, if any.

Advantage: Indicates an opportunity for a positive consequence or side effect, regardless of the task's success or failure. Examples of these positive side effects include slicing a computer in far less time than anticipated, finding unexpected cover during a firefight, or recovering from stun during a combat.

Threat: Fuel for negative consequences or side effects, regardless of the task's success or failure. Examples of these negative side effects include taking far longer than expected to slice a computer terminal, leaving an opening during a firefight that allows an enemy to duck into cover, or suffering additional stun during a stressful situation.

Triumph and Despair are unique, they do not completely cancel each other out, therefore it is possible for a skill check to have both a Triumph and a Despair narrative element.

Triumph: Is a powerful result, indicating a significant boon or beneficial outcome.

Despair: Is a powerful result, Indicating a significant bane or detrimental outcome.

Boost Die: Represent benefits gained through luck, chance, and advantageous actions taken by the characters. They can be added to a pool for a wide variety of reasons. Boost dice are most often used to reflect the character gaining some sort of benefit or advantage, such as having ample time to complete the task or having the right equipment.

Setback Die: represent problems or minor obstacles during task resolution. Setback dice are often used to represent relatively minor effects that impair or hinder a character, such as poor lighting, obstructive terrain, insufficient resources, or facing a hungry rancor instead of an old, decrepit one.

Modifier Guidelines:
+/-1D: Character has only a slight ad/disadvantage.
+/-2D: Character has a good ad/disadvantage.
+/-3D: Character has a decisive ad/disadvantage.
+/-4D: Character has an overpowering ad/disadvantage.

Challenge Dice: Represent the most extreme adversity and opposition. They are used during particularly daunting challenges posed by trained, elite, or prepared opponents. Increase the Difficulty by one step.

Example: Nate’s character Derp is trying to knock over some crates on above the docking bay. The GM tells Nate to roll Lifting or Strength if he does not have it. Derp looks around for something to pry with, the GM says he finds something to lever with and gives Derp a +1D Boost. Checking his sheet, Nate sees Derp has 3D+2 Strength and rolls 4D (3D+2+1D), getting 3, 5, 1, and a 6 on his Wild die, he rolls it again, getting a 3. Nate’s character has rolled an 18 with 1 Threat and a Triumph.

Not only does he succeed but he takes out a couple stormtroopers below with a Triumph, however a pair of stormtroopers hear the crates land and start firing at Derp from long range since there is a Threat rolled as well.

I was NOT going to try and format those for a forum post. Besides, those tables are meant as examples of what you can do with the narrative aspects.

As an aside, you have access to the self-same tables. You format and post them =)
