For starship combat, when a pilot goes for a 'full dodge' (maneuverability) against incoming attacks, is there any corresponding penalties assigned to the gunners in that ship targeting those around them??
Several gm's I have played under had rules for that, though i am thinking they were just house rules.
1 had it where the full total ROLLED by the pilot was assigned to your target diff to shoot enemies. The other had it half value... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I would have to say, if the pilot is dodging incomming fire, and the gunner is still firing away, he would have to take in account for the ship tossing about, so i would say half of the pilots roll as a difficulty for the gunner to still hit. |

I'd just increase the difficulty one or two levels. |

Since you specified a "Full Dodge" the gunners would not be able to fire as the ship movement would not allow for a clear shot. That is the way I run it in my game. The term "Full Dodge" would be a completely defensive series of maneuvers as in "Full Dodge" for a PC in a fire fight; it is completely defensive with no offensive actions permitted.
Now for a regular dodge I would allow normal modifiers for the gunners to shoot. _________________ "Dig it. Who's the man? I'm the man. I'm a bad man. How bad? Real bad. I'm a 12.0 on the 10.0 scale of badness." The Evil Midnight Bomber

Full dodge with a star fighter means rolling and shaking the ship to avoid enemy fire like Han Solo did in episode V when he was with 4 tie on his tail in the asteroid field.
Even if the gunner is glued on his sit, ce can't perform a good aiming. That's why the I use the full dodge roll score as the new dificulty if it is higher than the range dificulty. _________________ Phalanks

Bringing this back out... due to looking things up when i was on the maneuvering thread (stop!!!)... According to the rules, when a person is going all out in a vehicle (and ship), he cannot fire, or do anything else. Now would that prevent others from shooting??? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Not in my opinion. The pilot is concentrating too much to do anything else, but the gunners aren't. _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

Good answer, Orgaloth! It might (might, mind you) add to the difficulty for those firing the guns on that ship, but they should still be able to fire.
I never saw, when Han or Chewie were juking and weaving all-out in the Falcon, the quads EVER stop firing due to speed. The only reason they weren't lighting up space was because no one was in their targeting reticles. |

You can also interpret a full dodge as draining so much of the ship's power that the weapons can't be fired. I've always treated Full Dodge and All-Out Speed in a similar manner. But my preference is saying the gunners are being rocked around too much to fire. |

I'm not entirely sure where it states what, but I usually add the full dodge roll to the gunners difficulty. This is somewhat how it is handled in the Star Warriors game. _________________ "I've got a bad feeling about this!"

I'm with Impfrontier on this one. If the pilot is desperate enough to do the full dodge, things are either very bad or rapidly approaching it. I would think everyone would just hold on for dear life and wait for the mad spinning to stop. _________________ Aha! |
