My players are working on a tramp freighter for an NPC captain. They will soon have to go and pay the loan shark the captain borrowed credits to buy his ship. I'm looking for a suitable location for where the loan shark can have his business setup.
- Preferably a location already established and fleshed out somewhat in one of the WEG books
- A location where the PC's can find stuff to do, including legal and illegal work, and have other reasons to go except for making down-payments
- I'm thinking Outer Rim to Colonies. They will be spending most of their time, at least in the beginning, in the Outer Rim.
Mos Eisley would be a good spot, but due to one of the pc's background I want to save this location a bit, and probably have several adventures set on Tatooine later in the campaign.
I like Byblos (Platts Starport Guide), but I'm worried the heavy Imperial presence will make it a bit unlikely for the loan shark to set up there.
Another idea was Celanon City (Planet Collection 1), I guess there's a lot of places that could work, I just wanted to tap the hive mind of the forum to see if any brilliant ideas I haven't thought of comes up
Thanks in advance guys! |

Nar Shaddaa, the Smuggler's moon. Wookieepedia has a great write up.
Abregado Rae, written up in the Thrawn Trilogy source book. A wretched hive of scum and villainy that exceeded Mos Eisley. Also, a core world. Also, the start of the Rimma Trade Route.
I did a write up for the Daalang system a few years back for a game. If you want, I can paste those up. Located at the edge of Republic space and Hutt Space there's not much official information on Daalang, but it is perfectly located to be an interesting local. |

Nar Shaddaa is a good idea, although not much legitimate business there
It's certainly used a lot in EU, so there's a lot of fluff written about it. Certainly one for the short list! |

It might be worth having a look at Tresidiss or Andasala from the Criminal Organisations book. _________________ "The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't." |

The Planets Collection had a lot of possibilities. You mentioned Celanon which is a really big city driven by trade so legal and illegal stuff should abound. In that respect any big city will have a mix of legal, illegal, and interesting locations. Personally I like the Outer Rim as a location in general as I find it easier to mentally justify the PCs packing blasters out on the Rim.
Also in the Planets Collection is a section for Elrood Sector which is about 1/3 of the book. In the sector the planet Lanthrym had both legal, illegal, and semi-legal stuff as did the City of Refuge on Kidron. Elrood the sector capital was a bit too spic-and-span for criminal stuff to be a big draw but it would be great for legal work. IIR there are several other planet write ups in the collection that would work.
I like Elshandru Pica which has a write up in (I think) GG 9: Fragments from the Rim. It has a big casino and nightclub - which is good if your players/PCs appreciate glamour. There is a Rebel connection there and we used it for several espionage missions. I could also easily see big shot underworld types going to the casino or nightclub. IIR it is on the Five Veils Hyperspace Route which could make it a jumping off point to several other locations and you could use it as a central or focal point for a campaign.
Best of luck. |

Adventure Journal 1 source file Lan Barell. It has a section of the main city/ space port called the Grill. Sounds like just what you're looking for. _________________ "EXECUTE ORDER 67. I wouldn't worry Byblos has such high traffic that only blatant acts of lawlessness or Rebellion would attract more than cursory attention. Even in the opening of the chapter Platt mentions that whole economies slip threw the cracks. Remember Platt's Guide mostly deals with a single arcology tower out of who knows how many. As long as your loan shark isn't financing Rebels a few well placed bribes will keep the authorities out of his hair. As an example there is the underground starship mechanic shop operating out of another tower described in Cracken's Rebel Operatives on pages 89 to 94. |

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply, Real Life got in the way again...
Thanks a lot for all your help, especially The Brain for additional musings on Byblos, but several other suggestions are also quite spot on. I have several options that can work now, just need to decide...
It's extremely helpful to have access to a forum like this, when I simply don't have the time to spend hours reading and creating stuff anymore. Hopefully I can return the favor at some point.
Zarn, I couldn't find any write up of Ord Mantell, do you know if/where any exists? |

Another place you could check out is the Ring of Kafrene from Rogue 1. It doesn't have a ton of information that I've been able to dig up, which means you can make up a lot of it. However, really like the look of the place with the street stall markets and the imperial presence.

I agree, it's a really cool location. I don't really have time to make up a lot of stuff these days, so that's why I'm looking at already fleshed out alternatives
I want to watch Rogue One again now... |

There is a write up for Ord Mantell in the Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook. The legacy Wookieepedia page is good too.
I remember reading a more in depth description of Ord Mantell somewhere in WEG, but I can't find it now. It could have been one of the other Ord planets though. It's been a few years. |
