Just a quick question for the masses. My gaming group started casting actors and actresses back when we took a break from Star Wars and started playing the Star Trek RPG a number of years ago. Since then, it's kind of been a thing that we do, especially when starting up a new campaign or rolling up a new character.

Wait, are you saying that your players rolled PCs that were all actors? That is kinda odd, not to mention lacking in versatility...
Or did I misunderstand you? _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies
Only some of it is for D6 Star Wars.
Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

Think of it like having an actor come in and audition to play the part in a movie...
We treat the character the smae as any other character, we just have a better visual representation. Photoshopping is sometimes required to get the look for the part. Other times, a photo has served as inspiration for a character. _________________ "Sarcasm is just one of the many services I provide."

Occasionally, we do. However, it hasn't been applied that much to Star Wars. I do remember that Colin Farrell with the look from Horrible Bosses was cast once, but that was in an X-Files type game. Worked pretty well.
For us, it works similar to "if we made a movie based on our games, which actor would portray your character, and what visual representation would that lead to"? |

Oh man, having two actors on hand to use as supplemental NPC's would be sooo incredibly useful...lol. I do voice acting well but my players have heard them all by now.
Do they charge? Or do they just consider it getting practice? _________________ The only words of explanation you need for any concept in the entire Star Wars universe are the words Science Fiction and Space Opera. |

Not consistently, but frequently. "He sounds like a young Dirty Harry." "Did you ever see Excalibur? Think of Merlin from that." _________________ "I've Seen Your Daily Routine. You Are Not Busy!"

First off, let me say thanks for posting some of the canon characters' d6 stats online. And while I disagree with some of the casting choices (Pink as Platt O'Keefe?), some I can get behind, eg: William Campbell of Rocketeer fame as Dash Rendar.
We definitely also cast our own characters, and as others have already said, it does help for a ready visualization of who is who and what is what. The cast has changed for our longest running campaigns over the years, but we always do cast, and make note of the actor on our character sheets, etc. I have always let my players cast whom they want as their character, as I myself would always want direct control over who plays my character on screen.
For example, in our longest lasting since retired campaign, I had:
Oliva Thirlby, as my PC Casandra, Hot-Shot Pilot/Psychic/Young Jedi.
(Back in the late 1990's and early aught's, I had cast Rachel Leigh Cook, but after seeing Dredd in 2012, I retcon-recast her as Olivia Thirlby.)
Giancarlo Esposito, of Gus Fring Breaking Bad fame as my PC's nemesis, Jedi Knight's Jerec, Grand Inquisitor.
Lena Headey, as Dark Lady Lumiya. (We had the character as Jerec's lover, pupil and eventual successor as main campaign antagonist)
Sam Rockwell, a PC who was a Troubled Bombardier.
Dean Norris, a PC who was a Foul-Mouthed Sullustan Engineer, former Technical Instructor, and former barkeep.
(And because this player swore so creatively, this character eventually wound up with languages: profanity at some absurdly high expert level).
... and so on!
Who were some of your PC casting choices? |

That's it...my next "Darth" anything is going to look like Tom Hanks. And not Castaway Tom Hanks, Big Tom Hanks. _________________ The only words of explanation you need for any concept in the entire Star Wars universe are the words Science Fiction and Space Opera. |

I came up with visual representatives for the NPC's in my campaign, always good to have something to match with. |
