|

A friend of mine introduced me to a program I had over looked for years called One Note. I am sure a lot of you may be familiar with it. I have been using it for my games now and it is awesome. I was wondering if anyone else had used it for gaming? |

Can you please explain what one note is and how you use it in your game. _________________ "EXECUTE ORDER 67. Wait a minute, that doesn't sound like order 67..... No, wait. Yes, yes it does. EXECUTE ORDER 68" Palpatine's last moments - robot chicken. |

One Note is a Microsoft program. It allows you to put together notebooks with sub sections and pages that can be easily tabbed though as the game goes on. You can quickly update notes and add pictures, music and other things for quick reference during the game. Here is a screenshot of a break down of the Darknon Station adventure outline I did from Platt's Starports.

It is really cool. You can break down a lot of stuff for quick reference. |

That was what I thought. I have a couple of notebooks that were shared with me. Pathfinder and 5E DnD. But the rest are things I am compiling myself.
I ran a game the other night and used my laptop to track everything. I was able to place things in the notebook as I was describing them so the players could see them pop up on their tablet or phone as we were going.
It made it extremely easy to keep track of npc's and their stats without having to shuffle papers constantly. The different races I could just copy a Wookipedia link into the notebook and all for easy referencing. I was able to put floor plans and ship along with their stats in the game easy. I have a ton of pictures saved from across the web (and Pinterest) so when I needed an npc I just dropped the picture in the notebook so they could see what I was describing.
It was the first time I had actually ran a game in a while (been playing mostly) and it seriously helped out tremendously. I didn't have to break my back lugging 10 or 12 books with me too. So that helped. |

That looks awesome. My stuff is so unorganized. I already use Word and Excel for Mac and they had a DL of this for Mac so I got it. Thanks for sharing this! _________________ *

I've been setting up a database for the last month or so after I learned OneNote was a thing. Finding pictures to correspond with weapons, NPCs, planets, etc. has been eating most of my time, but it's looking pretty great.
I almost paid $50 for RealmWorks until I read one of the comments suggesting OneNote. I was shocked when I found out it had been on my computer this whole time...d'oh! I also like that it can be accessed anywhere online, so I can work on it on my phone or on break at work. _________________ Currently playing D&D 5E and painting an unholy amount of miniatures. |

I love it. I have it on my laptop of course. It is on my tablet and my phone. I love be able to access it anywhere I go. And I have spent hours surfing the web looking for pictures and stuff just to put into notebooks for future projects.
Now I not familiar with Ever Note but the say it is similar to One Note. |

I saw a video recently where someone suggested using OneNote to organise game stuff.
I have it on my computer, but when I opened it I could not understand how it was supposed to work. _________________ "The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't." |

This was the video I watched to get me started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COScoRiI1fM. I just substituted Star Wars for D&D. Also, the edition of OneNote I have is different than the one in the video (my tabs are on the left, not on top). _________________ Currently playing D&D 5E and painting an unholy amount of miniatures. |
