i did this once the pc's were on the edge of imperial space. they answered distress calls, re supplied planets on the far rim, and did some star trek type stuff. the pc's were a mix of scout troopers, civilian scientists, pilots and tech people. although they were imperials, they were the good guys to the citizens of the area they were in.
what was cool was you could use almost any star trek type scenario as a idea for an adventure. one series of adventures hinged around preventing mysterious aliens from using a re activated droid army to invade the rim. another involved fighting pirates and finding their base (remember you dont have the usual unlimited imperial resources).
characters were based out of a moderate sized imp capital ship, which they did not control. so it just went from system to system getting them into trouble... |

Cool. I thought of a similar idea, but thought it would work best in the time of the New Republic, after the Empire has been defeated and exploration is back in full swing. Yeah, basically Star Trek in the Star Wars universe. Not too original, I admit. Maybe the ship would be smaller and the crew less, to make it more intimate and GG-like (Scouts). _________________ *

I've actually played in a similar campaign. The GM had the idea that not all people in service of the Empire were evil, some people believed what they were doing was right and were trying to help make the galaxy a better place.
Unfortunately the campaign was very short lived but it was an interesting perspective and a lot of fun. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.
