Quote: | TX-225 GAVw "Occupier" Combat Assault Tank
Also known simply as the Imperial combat assault tank, is a ground assault vehicle used by the Galactic Empire, and operated by a commander and two pilots. The tank has great maneuverability in tight quarters, such as the streets of occupied cities. Its laser cannons could devastate enemy troops, and the powerful engines could transport heavy payloads.

I feel a great disturbance, as if 100 years of armored fighting vehicle design cried out...
Two drivers and no gunner? Because dividing one's attention between shooting and driving a bulky multi-ton vehicle is such a good idea.
Unless the commander operates the guns. Then all he has to do is shoot, scan for threats/targets, communicate/coordinate with other tanks and any support units, and tell the 2 drivers what to do. Sounds like a breeze.
And finally we have a tank that often gets deployed into urban areas with its entire armament only capable of firing into into its front arc. |

Turrets are more a hindrance than an advantage in urban settings where roads are narrow and twisting and buildings are built close together, or even right next to each other.
Most towns, villages, and cities that have been around for hundreds of years are difficult for tanks and other modern heavy vehicles to navigate and fight in. |

I feel your pain. I put the stats together based on information available and common sense from pictures. I too think that from a true-world sense its a pointless design. Luckily its Star Wars, so reality gets checked at the time of the ticket purchase.
As an aside, its amazing this is supposed to be a heavy tank and yet it very small and carries, at best, medium weapons and no turret-based main gun. Yeah, in my book this is a light scout type of vehicle, maybe even medium. In fact, truth be told, other than the side armaments, it seems to me more like a light or medium flatbed wheeled vehicle. _________________ Don Diestler

Wouldn't the existing light, medium and heavy tanks as shown in the complete vehicle guide cover this? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Yeah, with some minor tweaks and the description changed. But that is the case with most vehicles in Star Wars. Do we need stats for twelve different speeder bikes? Not really, we could get by with just one and change it up as needed, but people want to be creative. They want that one set of stats, no matter how much it may duplicate others, its unique. Besides I would not want to crush anyone's wish to be creative. _________________ Don Diestler

And every movie has to have new vehicles added to capture the audiences imagination. And that's true with every sci-fi IP that has multiple movies and tv series. |

I so agree with your statement. Its irks me that this is listed as being a medium assault tank. Its not even really an heavy urban assault vehicle. This is what happens when movie products are released before the movie is finalized. This actually was named by LEGO who released it under contract prior to the finalization of the movie. They knew the vehicle was going to be in, pretty much what it looked like, but not really given a name yet. So they gave the product a name that pretty much stuck through all information sources, even though it makes no sense. _________________ Don Diestler

Merchandising strikes again!
Well, at least selling toys wasn't the *only* objective of making Rogue One...or The Force Awakens, for that matter. Even so, I'm sure you all remember the photograph of Christine Gwendoline (Capt. Phasma) drowning in all that TFA merchandise with that expression of extreme rapture on her face. As much as I might frown on such blatant commercialism, I can't criticize. Truth is, if I were drowning in that much Star Wars swag, I'd react the same way. Thus I shall refrain from casting any stones from my glass house. _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies

Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

Did I...did I stumble onto an old meme without realizing it?
Ugh, this means that in order to satisfy my curiosity about this, then I HAVE to watch Spaceballs from beginning to end now...that's something I've been avoiding all my life. Ah well. _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies

And mounting the weapons in fixed positions that require the entire vehicle to turn is less of a hindrance? Also theres no law that says turret has to be a massive structure with lots of overhang. If you look at the dimensions of laser cannons it mounts now one could easily be mounted in a turret on top of the tank with little to no overhang. That along with the writers changing the crew to 3; commander, driver, gunner would at least make the thing plausible. |

Also I read that originally the movie had it planned as a hover (repulsor) tank, but that idea got scuttled. Which begs the question...WHY!? Who thought a hover tank wouldn't have looked kewl in a Star Wars movie? |
