|
|
Well most of my players looking at buying anything always go for the used option. After all its %50 off so who wouldn't. I rarely remember to add negative consequences to the purchase so I made a table.
#Used Items Modification
#Secret Roll by GM, if an inspection/appraisal is done by the character they may notice some of these benefits/problems before purchase.
12- Previous owner modified this device. (+1 - +1D to some stat or skill)
11- Improved non stat feature
10- Item is in good working order
9- Item is in good working order
8- Consumables must be changed (Filters cleaning, reasonable minor charge based on type of item)
7- Worn out non stat affecting feature. (Seats cracked, scratched badly, rough sounding engine)
6- Worn out/damaged part (minor negative to stat until repaired)
5- Worn part will break shortly after purchase. (1d3 adventures, gamemasters discretion, repair role in flight/field)
4- Poorly Maintained (Will require serious maintenance soon 5-10% of value)
3- Part illegally modified (Emissions, substandard part that will fail)
2- Important part broken, improper part installed will cause catastrophic damage later. (Droid motivator explodes shortly after purchase Ep. 4)
fairly intuitive and perhaps not worth a post but I thought I would share. I am open to comments/suggestions. |

I agree. Would there be any mods they could come up with to modifiy the result up or down?? Say like they spend X time searching for it, which grants a +2 on the chart, or if they rush it, they get a -2 penalty? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I implemented this and the players have liked it thus far, still happily accepting the risk to buy used.

That's a great idea. This could be controlled with the amount of time to shop around so that players don't abuse that feature. I had one character use his technical related skill for an inspection when purchasing a repulsor craft after I rolled in secret. |

When I first saw the title for this thread, I thought you were selling a table. _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies

Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

Dude, I was just about to say that myself...
Merrick, table looks good, though if it were me I would add one more "Item is in good working order" result. In fact, another way to do this is if you get a result of 9 to 12 is to roll again afterward. Here's what I mean:
Table 1:
12 - Item is in good working order. Proceed to Table 2 and roll 1D twice.
11 - Item is in good working order. Proceed to Table 2 and roll 1D once.
10 - Item is in good working order.
9 - Item is in good working order.
8 - Item is in good working order.
7 - Item's consumables must be changed.
6 - Item has one worn-out non stat-affecting part.
5 - Worn out/damaged part that may affect one or more stats.
4 - Worn out/damaged part will break shortly after purchase; affects a stat.
3 - Item has been poorly maintained and will require extensive maintenance soon at a cost of 5-10% of the purchase price.
2 - Item has either an important part which is broken or a part which is the wrong model. Catastrophic failure/damage will occur on first or second use.
Table 2:
1 - Item is in good working order.
2 - Item is in good working order and has extra consumables.
3 - Improved nonstat feature.
4 - Two improved nonstat features.
5 - Item has been positively modified. Go to table three and roll 1D.
6 - Item has been positively modified. Go to table three and roll 1D.
Table 3:
1 - Modification of +1p to a stat.
2 - Modification of +2p to a stat.
3 - Modification of +1D to a stat.
4 - Modification of +1p to two stats.
5 - Modification of +2p to two stats.
6 - Modification of +1D to two stats.
So in theory, you could get a used item anywhere from "near catastrophic failure" to "massively modded" (up to +1D to four stats). This is really just me taking your idea and running with it...I love rolling dice for stuff like this; the randomness of it lends itself to the reality of buying used in the SWU. _________________ The only words of explanation you need for any concept in the entire Star Wars universe are the words Science Fiction and Space Opera. |

Heck, why not add in a 4th chart, for the lower end of the spectrum.
* Roll once on table 4
Table 4:
1 - Power capacitor is misaligned. On any roll of 1 on the wild die when shooting, gun blows up in hand causing weapons damage to user
2 - crystal focusing chamber cracked. First shot fired is at 1/2 range and damage. If shot a 2nd time without repairing, gun explodes for 3d damage.
3 - power pack contacts corroded, uses 10 times the # of shots per trigger pull. IF any to hit roll is a 1 on the wild die, pack fuses TO contacts, and who thing needs to be replaced.
4 - Jury rigged wrong. First shot fired, has all damage dice considered modified wild dice. Any die rolling a 1, forces a check on the jury rig chart in Tramp freighters.
5 - Cracked gas chamber - Weapon loses 20% of blaster gas contained inside per day. And doubles when weapon gets fired.
6 - Negative capacitor linked to positive flow module. Needs immediate repair before firing, otherwise when trigger first pulled, will cause immediate gun explosion in hand for +1d damage. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
