Has anyone worked up personal-level energy shields? Similar to what was seen in KotOR? How would you mechanically work those shields? _________________ "I've Seen Your Daily Routine. You Are Not Busy!"

The conventional wisdom in the EU is that standard deflector shields can't be used for unprotected humans and aliens due to radiation issues (or something to that effect).
I've been playing around with the idea of porting over WH40K's Refractor Fields as a personal force field (which is exactly what they are in WH40K) and saying that they are much safer for personal use due to the difference of method used to provide protection. Where a deflector shield provides a much stronger barrier, a refractor field uses a weakened field that diffuses energy attacks laterally across the surface of the field.
Or something to that effect.
The basic idea is that a Refractor Field, while weaker than an equivalent Force Field in absolute terms, still provides protection in the same league as most types of body armor without the Dexterity bonus or the health hazards of a full-up Force Field. Except it's expensive... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. In sparks, there is one module that does have a prototype backpack size (well more like a larger size fanny pack) personal shield generator. IIRC it only grants +1d phys/energy soak, and lasts 1 hr before needing 6 hrs for recharging... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
