As part of another concept, I've been doing some research into the ranges on various weapons. While the personal, starship and capital ship weapons all use relatively uniform ranges (with some exceptions), vehicle weapons are a hodge-podge of conflicting damage levels and ranges, where weapons that are nominally the same weapon have vastly different ranges, or where weapons like blaster cannon are significantly more powerful and longer ranged than laser cannon (the exact opposite of how starship-grade blasters and lasers function).
Just as an example, here is a compilation of various weapon names and ranges from the main three sourcebooks:Double Laser Cannon: 50-300/800/1.5km (Airspeeder)
Heavy Laser Cannon:
-50-500/1.5km/3km (AT-AT)
-50-500/1km/2km (Juggernaut, Mobile Command Base)
Double Blaster Cannon: 50-400/900/3km (Cloud Car)
Heavy Blaster Cannon:
-50-500/1/2km (Floating Fortress)
-50-250/750/1.5km (Hoverscout)
-50-100/500/1km (Sail Barge)
Medium Blaster Cannon:
-50-200/500/1km (AT-AT)
-50-250/750/1.5km (Juggernaut, CAV)
Twin Blaster Cannon: 50-200/1km/2km (AT-ST)
Twin Light Blaster Cannon: 50-300/500/1km )(AT-ST)
It's such a muddled mess that my first inclination is to do a stat re-write of most of the major vehicles to make them better conform to what is established in the personal and starship weaponry sections. But I'd like to solicit comments and opinions first. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. So, if I'm looking at real world equivalents, blaster cannon seem roughly on par with current generation 20- and 30-mm cannon mounted on helicopters and light to medium sized armored vehicles. Laser cannon, on the other hand, seem more equivalent to the larger tank guns, ranging from the 57mm cannon of WWI tanks all the way up to the larger 120 and 125mm cannon mounted on modern MBTs. It may sound a bit much to place that kind of armament on a starfighter, yet it is not without precedent in the annals of combat aircraft. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation.
