Hello, all!
I did some searching, but came up with nothing, so I thought I'd ask:
Has anyone considered adapting the SW d6 rules for E. R. Burroughs' Martian novels (A Princess of Mars, et al.)? Given that a movie ("John Carter") will be coming out this year, I thought I would first see if anyone else has contemplated this idea and if there may be any fan-made sourcebooks with such infos already written. The fast action, swashbuckling and derring-do of the Barsoom books appears at first glance to be a great match for the type of action in the SW movies.
On a related note, are there any threads here on adaptations for Flash Gordon in any of its incarnations? |

I sure haven't heard of anything along those lines, but SW D6 is so simple and elegant, I would be stunned to hear it if it couldn't be adapted. _________________ Or that excessively long "Noooooooooo" was the Whining Side of the Force leaving him. - Dustflier

Most of the things that we've got here are pretty closely related to Star Wars, though one could argue that there isn't much of a stylistic difference between Star Wars and Flash Gordon, particularly because the one was (at least in part) inspired by the other.
The West End Games Fan Forums ( www.wegfanforums.com ) has a lot of adaptation discussion, plus there are a few Open D6 variants that lend themselves well to the types of games you're discussing. And who knows... there might... just might be something about adapting such types of adventures into D6 in the next issue of the D6 Magazine.
Not that I would know anything about that. _________________ __________________________________

You posted. I validated your post and bumped you to full registered status.
I did move your post from the Star Wars section to the D6 Discussion section, since it's not specifically Star Wars related.
I'm not sure what sort of confirmation email you're expecting, but you can post there. |

We're actually developing a D6 RPG set on Barsoom. We'd love to hear people's thoughts on what should go into such a game... _________________ Creative Mage Games

The American copyright of at least the first seven novels has expired so they are public domain here. _________________ *

I've read the first two books and seen the Disney movie (which was underrated, and contrary to popular belief, did actually gross more than its budget). Through today's eyes Barsoom may seem kind of cornball on the surface, but when looked though the historical lens that Barsoom was a huge influence on the creation of Superman (and thus the entire superhero genre), Dune and Star Wars, it gets a lot of respect and reverence from me. How I personally choose to reconcile Barsoom with my modern sensibilities is by seeing Barsoom as Mars in an alternate reality, so John Carter does not just transport between planets but also between universes. One simple hand waive, and suddenly it works for me.
I'd love to see a good D6 Barsoom RPG! Best wishes on your endeavors, and please keep us updated on your progress! They would also be interested in hearing about this at D6 Online. _________________ *
