Those were my top two off of the top of my head, but I figured with all the races in the game there had to be someone better
Duros rock the 4D+2 MEC max and starship intution
Quote: | Starship Intuition: Duros are, by their nature, extremely skilled starship pilots and navigators. When a Duros character is generated, 1D (no more) may be placed in the following skills, for which the character receives 2D of ability: archaic starship piloting, astrogation, capital ship gunnery, capital ship shields, sensors, space transports, starfighter piloting, starship gunnery, and starship shields. This bonus also applies to any specializations. If the character wishes to have more than 2D in the skill listed, then the skill costs are normal from there on.

Sullustan 4D+1 MEC
Quote: | Location Sense: Once a Sullustan has visited an area, he always remembers how to return there — he cannot get lost in a place that he has visited before. This is automatic and requires no die roll. When using the astrogation skill to jump to a place a Sullustan has been, the astrogator receives a bonus of + ID bonus to his (or her) die roll. |
The only thing I've foiund so far is Bith
Bith 5D MEC max, no racial trait that helps
I guess that gives Duros a bit lower starting skill, but 2 for 1 allows them to cover more ground.
Any other races with a higher than Human maximum ?
Odd thing I didn't expect is that most races are worse off than humans for racial maximums. |

The Entymals, gliding insectoids, come to mind too.
According to Alien Encounters, they get bonuses to astrogation and transport+ size at the time of their character creation. _________________ A Game of Galactic Conquest: http://rebelfaction.org/ |

Can't say I ever noticed the Entymals before.
Entymals Max MEC 3D
Quote: | Technical Aptitude: At the Time of character creation only, the character gets 2D for every 1D placed in astrogation, capital ship piloting,or space transports. |

I just got done reading up all about Roon, a difficult planet to get to (due to the Cloak of the Sith), since my players went there.
They list the population as made up heavily of Humans, Duros, and Sullustan, so I'd guess they're some of the more prominent 'pilot groups' in the known SW galaxy. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

Of the aliens ever listed in WEG source material, I'd agree that Duros are probably the top.
Although, I always figured Devaronians would be good at Astrogation because of their wanderlust story factor, and the fact that the males of the species leave Devaron at their first chance.
One could argue that these spacefaring Devarons are probably travelling via charter or other transport. But if you ever boarded a ship with a Devaronian at the helm, odds are that he'd be pretty competent. _________________ "We attack under cover of daylight.
