Going by the Imperial sourcebook;
Quote: | The Imperial army uses surface attack vehicles
such as AT-AT and AT-ST walkers to equal
the fury of their assault troopers. These vehicles
are all heavily armed and armored to
provide maximum fire power and protection to
the units they are assigned to.
The crews that service these war machines
are soldiers with training in the operation of a
variety of ground assault vehicles. Most of these
machines are crewed by a pilot, a gunner, and a
combat coordinator (or commander). Depending
on the size and type of vehicle, there may be
additional crew members or fewer crew handling
multiple roles.
Like the normal Army trooper, assault crewmen
wear gray uniforms and partial body armor.
They receive all the combat training given the
trooper, as well as the training needed to operate
the ground assault vehicles. They also learn how
to best apply the Imperial mindset of rule by fear
through the use of their war machines. |
So walker pilots should be the same whether for the AT-AT or AT-ST.
By that SB, their stats are
Dex 2d+2. Blaster 4d+2, Blaster artillery 3d+2, vehicle blaster 5d+2
Know 1d. Survival 2d
Mech 3d+2. Ground vehicle ops 5d+2
Per 2d+1. Search 3d+1
Str 1d+1. Brawling 3d
Tech 1d. Ground vehicle repair 2d.
Though you notice there is NO repulsorlift ops/repair or walker ops/repair, which kind of flies in the face of the above statement, since a ground vehicle operator is NOT the same as a repulsor or walker operator (unless they left those skills out)..
Now by the R&E rule book, page 241 and 242, AT-ST walker operators skills are given as 4d missile weapons, walker ops 5d and vehicle blasters 4d+2, while AT-AT operators are 5d for both vehicle blasters and walker ops. So perhaps the imp sourcebook's "Assault troopers" are the standard for vehicles, with each vehicle crew type having a 'specialty or focus.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I think that a crew works in tandem. Look at the AT-AT pilots from TESB - there were at least two in the cockpit, three in Blizzard One if you count Veers. Perhaps in the case of an AT-ST, there's a pilot and a gunner? _________________ Don Diestler

In Return of the Jedi didn't the AT-ST pilots look like army?
AT-AT pilots have armor that looks like storm trooper armor? |

Maybe not unlike our armed forces, some branches of the Imperial military utilize the same hardware. The reason why they looked like normal army troops was because of a different branch using them. Or maybe they just had different specialized gear for the cold in ESB, and said gear would be unnecessary on Endor. _________________ __________________________________
