Where is the RAW on constructing lightsabers?
Sigh just spent 2 hours trying to find it.
Also is there much for house rules on the subject?
Thank you. |

If you're going to have a player character constructing a lightsaber in-game, and are only figuring on it taking a few days, I personally recommend that it actually be done in-game, and that the character needs to sequester themselves while the rest of the party is adventuring and, quite honestly, earning themselves some good loot. After all, a lightsaber is a very recognizable and important part of a Jedi's career, and it's a huge deal. Especially if this is happening during the Empire era, this will be something that will have to have been very seriously prepared for in advance; the Emperor has gone to great lengths to rid the galaxy of Jedi lore AND the accoutrements and trappings of the Jedi, lest some upstart be able to build himself a lightsaber, come find the Emperor someday, and hack him to pieces.
Since this is such a big deal, and since a lightsaber is such a powerful weapon (especially in well-trained hands), I'd use this as an opportunity to allow the rest of the party to pick up some gear they've been pining for. I'm not saying they should be like kids on Christmas morning, mind you, but this would be a good opportunity to let them perhaps find an armorer who can take those cobbled-together suits of stormtrooper armor and provide the team with customized armor that fits each individual, and perhaps provides a few new bonuses the Empire didn't see fit to install into the standard-issue gear. Or, perhaps this is when the gunslinger of the group gets that highly-modified DL-44 he's been wanting ever since he started hearing stories about that smuggler, Han Solo, and that overpowered quick-drawing blaster he flashes when the need arises.
The bottom line is that this Jedi character is about to receive a piece of phat lewt. The player should then be busy making rolls and putting the time into the construction process...and when the party returns to their lair, ship, or wherever the Jedi character is holed up, they should also have some nice new shinies to show off. Then they can all Oooh and Aaaaah as they have their show and tell. |

Not to mention that it requires a skill that most gm's I run with either consider an advanced skill - or at least require having found or being taught the knowledge of how to construct one, and then having to find/make the parts.
we often have it require a week or so to construct instead of a month but we make our player rp out getting the parts and knowledge. |
