Capsule: Named after one of the original founders of Rogue Squadron, the Narra-class Interceptor was designed to replace the aging starfighters in the Republic arsenal.
The Narra can’t do everything, unfortunately. The lack of warhead launchers reduces the interceptor’s role and limits its ability to engage escort and capital ships. Also, while the Narra features a shield system, it has little armor, leaving it vulnerable to attack in such situations. Finally, the Narra has no hyperdrive and must be transported on a carrier or based from surface bases or orbital defensive stations.
Model: S.T.U.P.
Modularity: Yes
Capsule: Taking a new approach on starship design, the Republic opted to cut costs on making brand new starfighters and, instead, opted to try for a modular approach. The Starfighter Upgrade Package, or S.T.U.P., was designed solely for the Narra-class Interceptor to upgrade the craft to the capabilities, armor, and weapon load outs of a starfighter.
The package consists of a series of armor plates, weapons and weapon mountings, and electrical systems for the Narra. The armor is simple durasteel plating that is bolted onto the chassis overtop the original starfighter's hull and is designed to hold up to more substantial damage in combat. Also, a pair of launcher tubes with attached magazines (each holding 4 missiles/torpedoes) come with the package, allowing the pair of launcher tubes to be bolted to and equipped on the Narra's ventral surface. This gives the Narra the ability to engage enemy targets with both its standard two repeating lasers as well as any missiles/torpedoes it carries from the two launchers. The upgrade kit also includes the electronics, computer updates, and extra parts/mountings needed to fully integrate the upgrade package with the Narra. The package can be installed with minimal hangar crew in a few hours, while a full crew can install the upgrades in about an hour or two.
This kit brings the Narra-class Interceptor up to the following armament:
2 Repeating Laser Cannons
2 Missile Launchers (4 missiles each; concussion or proton torpedo)
Note: Maneuverability: 3D. Space: 12, Speed: 450; 1,300 km/h. Hull: 5D.
Model: B.U.P.
Modularity: Yes, there are two upgrade package variants: Standard (standard 2.0 Guide bomber layout) and the RST-B1 Weapon System upgrade
Capsule: Following in the path of the S.T.U.P, or Starfighter Upgrade Package, issued to the Republic Navy, the B.U.P, or Bomber Upgrade Package, was designed, tested, and issued to all naval assets.
Essentially, it operates the same way as the Starfighter Upgrade Package. The module contains all the necessary items to uparmor and uparm the Narra so as to conduct bomber roles in the fleet. A large number of durasteel plates are included that are bolted to the hull of the interceptor as well as multiple vectored retro-thrusters to help it maintain a semblance of maneuverability. The package also includes modular system add-ons to include bomber systems and scopes into the cockpit and the pilot's HUD. Lastly, the package includes a pair of launcher tubes with expanded magazines, giving the Narra-class a pair of launcher tubes with eight concussion missiles or proton torpedoes each.
However, a second bomber variant package exists for the Narra. This system is identical in all ways to the standard, however, instead of the tube launcher and expanded magazine, the package includes the RST-B1 Weapon System, which is mounted underneath the chassis.
Despite these upgrades, the package does not come with engine boosters or an upgraded engine, meaning that any Narra interceptors equipped with this upgrade will drop to a speed of -4 due to the heavier armor and increased warhead ammunition capacity.
This kit brings the Narra-class Interceptor up to the following armament:
2 Repeating Laser Cannons
1 Repeating Ion Cannon
2 Missile Tubes (8 missiles each; concussion or proton torpedo)
Note: Space: 10, Speed: 415; 1,200 km/h. Hull: 5D.
Model: RST-B1 Weapon System
Modularity: Yes, the weapon can be armed with a proton torpedo, or an ion missile.
Capsule: Realizing that most navies and tactics had become set across the galaxy, it was decided to "shake things up" in a way by designing a new and unusual weapon for effective use on the battlefield that could radically change space fighter combat against larger ships.
Enter the RST-B1 Weapon System. The RST-B1 is both a simple yet complex weapon system designed to be carried by Republic Bombers in the field. The weapon is simply a very large, very high warhead yield missile attached to the underside of the star bomber that is fired at the target ship. On impact, the heavy warhead detonates against the target ship's hull or shields causing massive amounts of damage (depending on the warhead and target shields/armor) to the enemy ship. The ability to deal a devastating strike in one pass allows the weapon system to make up for a bomber unable to carry more than one RST-B1 as well as making up for the missile's relatively slow speed. All in all, the weapon system was deemed a success, though it was noted that at longer ranges, the missile was easier to target by enemy defensive weapons. However, rather than attempting to redesign the weapon system, new tactics evolved where bombers fired off the RST-B1 missile at closer ranges, increasing the odds of a nasty hit on the enemy.
Bombers using the RST-B1 can only mount the lone missile itself and no other weapons. This is both due to the size of the warhead, as it blocks standard missile tubes, and the weight of the warhead, the mass of the RST-B1 plus all the warhead launchers and ammunition would slow the bomber down to the point of uselessness.
This kit brings the Narra-class Interceptor up to the following armament:
2 Repeating Laser Cannons
1 Missile Tube (1 missile)
Note: Reduce Space: 10, Speed: 415; 1,200 km/h
Model: A.S.U.P.
Modularity: None
Capsule: With the success of the previous two upgrade packages, a third was approved and put into production. The Advanced Starfighter Upgrade Package, or A.S.U.P for short, allows the Narra-class Interceptor to perform as an Elite Starfighter when equipped with the package. The package consists of electronic components and sensors to increase sensor and interface capabilities for the Narra. It also comes with a series of Alusteel plates and Glassteel reinforcement sections to attach to the starfighter, making it more durable and protected. The upgrade also contains the necessary components to upgrade both the engine and the fuel capacity, allowing the Narra to maintain higher speeds despite the armor and weapon increases. The package comes with a repeating Ion Cannon to mount on the Interceptor as well as two launcher tubes and an ammo hopper for each, both holding six proton torpedoes or concussion missile a piece. The downside is that this kit is slightly more difficult to install and takes slightly longer. Generally, the current doctrine for the Republic Navy is to have a small number of Narras already equipped with the upgrade and assigned to the top pilots available.
