One of my newer players has become the sarge of their merc group. Payday is coming and the troops are getting excited. The problem is how much do they get payed? We were thinking 150% of a 'typical' soldiers pay. We were trying to figure out a credit/US dollar conversion rate.
I heard somewhere that Imperial credits are roughly the same as 1950's era US dollars. But according to an inflation calculator I found online, that means that roughly 13 Imperial Credits has equivalent purchasing power to $100 in the US today.
How much should a typical merc earn for 1 month? |

We usually play it with an aproximated value of 1 credit = 1 dollar.
Mug of lum = 1 cred.
Cheap meal = 5-10 cred.
Room = 20 cred.
Merc monthly pay..... I'd say about 5 grand. |

Just bear in mind that a Merc has to fight the paymaster more than they do the enemy.
Mercenaries aren't cheap, unless they die before payday. |

The company i work for, (our own made up Coorporation) we get paid 5,000 a month payment no matter what, then we get paid for doing the missions - with extra payment for a completely smooth adventure.
We also get free room and board, free meals, and 20% discount on anything the coorp makes.
(not suggesting everyone uses that idea, just a little help for those that like it)

Well, that should really depend on the mercs hired. A cheap merc probably shouldn't have much in the way of skills that their good at, being as dangerous to themselves and those around them as they are to those their being sent against. As you go up in pay scale, the quality of the mercs should also go up. One of those you get what you pay for. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

Strange... in our campaign a cred is about 5-10 $ (or rather €uro, since we're in Germany). A fast-food meal is usually 1 cred, a hotel room is around 5-10, with 500 Creds you can buy a nice used Landspeeder, etc...
So in our campaign a Merc wouldn't earn more then 500-1000 creds at most, mostly depending upon their reputation. |
