The idea is for a gun that can flash freeze something or someone in an instant.
A laser beam pointer hits the target, whilst a small electromagnetic field the size of a marble is formed . Inside the sphere is the coolant, Liquid Oxygen or Nitrogen. The magnetic sphere is fired along the targeting laser beams, where it strikes the object, the em field marblec dissipates and payload is delivered.
Could also be used to transfer hot plasma causing explosive and incindiary effects. |

The idea reminds me of the carbonite rifle used in the KotOR games. So, it's perfectly in keeping with what is established in the EU. You might take a look at our conversion as a touchpoint for the mechanics:
Quote: |
Carbonite Rifle
Model: Kez’del Systems freeze rifle
Type: Specialized carbonite rifle
Scale: Character
Skill: Blaster: carbonite rifle
Ammo: 20
Cost: 1,200 (power packs: 50)
Availability: 2, F
Range: 3-5/10/20
Damage: 5D+2 (stun)
Game Notes: Calculating damage on a carbonite rifle
is similar to that of calculating stun damage.
However, instead of a target being rendered
unconscious, the target is caught by the quickly
freezing and hardening stream that the rifle emits,
and is then rendered immobilized. An immobilized
target cannot make any actions or use any skills that
are based on movement.

In retrospect, it's a little too punchy for a stun weapon, since they don't have to meet as high of a threashold to incapacitate characters. _________________ __________________________________

I have a real problem with weapons like this in general. You will never see a freeze weapon in any of my games.
if it were so easy to flash freeze people, Vader would have just shot Luke with a freeze gun, rather than having to manuever him into the huge freezing facility and dropping him in the specially made chamber and activating it.
If you want to immobilize someone there are better ways.
Stun weapons
Stohlki spray sticks
Glop Grenades
net guns
all of which are well within established canon, don't shred the laws of physics.
If you don't care about physics how about immobilizer force fields, tracto beams, confinement beams, or telekinisis to accomplish the same task. why does it have to be freeze guns? _________________ http://swfallingstar.podbean.com

I could see cryo-cannons being lethal freeze weapons maybe designed by a particular alien race, but I don't see a cold freezing weapon being used for non-lethal take-downs, the human body isn't designed to be able to really survive that level of flash freezing, it causes all kinds of tissue damage and issues.
aegisflashfire makes a good point using Vader as an example, it would have been a lot easier if he had just armed a bunch of stormtroopers with carbonite weapons or ice weapons and set the ambush for Luke, rather than luring him into a large carbon-freezing facility. It seems to me that one would need the facility for there to be any chance of the target surviving the freezing process, but that's just me. _________________ RR

One of the options for the CSPL projectile launcher is the Cryo-ban grenade, which inflicts cold damage.
And carbonite guns do exist in several of the video games, so there is precedent for including them. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I see your point, sometimes I get an idea and Im keen to share it.
The application was meant as a freeze weapon, but obviously if theres pre existing weaponry, the Carbonite rifle, then Im happy to add that. My character has a thing for exotic and interesting weapons, especially ones he gets on the job as a bounty hunter by disarming his opponent...or just being a better shot.
As for the ESB references, you know Vader was just improvising with Cloud Citys Carbonite facility. Only reason he knew Han and Leia were there, was because Boba Fett followed them. if they had went elsewhere, Vader would have used something else to capture Luke. |

I could see a carbonite gun working on the same principle as a flamethrower, in that, rather than a burst of fire, the gun fires a stream of carbonite that freezes and solidifies on contact... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation.
