I don't know how many of you are familiar with this race, which are only mentioned in the 1E rules (in an adventure seed called "Rings of Bright Water"). They're described as three-foot tall, cute, furry otter-like beings with the temperaments of weasels.

There's not much out there on the net (like on Wookieepedia), so I find I'm having to improvise as I prepare.

One question I've got is whether or not to allow them to speak Basic or not. Since they're supposed to be a primitive people, I'm leaning on making them more like Ewoks or Jawas (or even Wookiees), where their physiology - though mammal - doesn't allow them to speak to the PCs.

Any thoughts, input, and comments on this race would be greatly appreciated!

I could easily see making them have the basic ewok write up, as for speach, tech etc. But without knowing more on them it is hard to give them a write up.

It's all on a single page in the 1E rules. We don't know much beyond what I wrote (a simple description), but we do know they're great at swimming, so I figure I'll give them a special ability that reflects that.

Their Wookieepedia entry gives you a taste of how little we know about them.

I'd give them claws STR+1D to brawling and a swim bonus, either a flat bonus of 1D, or use 2D for 1D at character creation.

Or just use the Balinaka instead.

Thanks, Kytross! I was thinking along the same lines (leaning more towards a mandatory bonus, as it appears all of them can swim).
