I've encountered the thought a few times from my player and I've given some thought as to how to go about it. I'd like to share the thought with you guys and get opinions.
This requires a called shot to a place that would make sense for a knockout and may only be used with physical melee including unarmed. These knockout places includes the head (or other storage area for the brain; so possibly Lekku), gut, possibly the groin for most humanoid males.
The damage is rolled against the target's stamina plus armor in the hit area. If damage in the area exceeds stun (or three points if using hit point house rules) the target is unconscious for 1d6 rounds +1 round for each excess of five points (+1 round at damage of 8, 13, 18, 23, etc) no injury beyond bruising is actually taken barring wild botches. In the event that that the damage roll in from 1-3 and not beyond the target takes a stun result and for the purposes of resisting knockout the targets stamina is reduced by 1D for normal stun length (the current round and the next). This allows for extremely high stamina characters to possibly go down and makes for the movie style 'repeated head blows" tactic sensible.
For melee weapons swords and other blades may be used if it it possible to hit with the flat of the blade. In my games I'm using the expanded martial arts house rules book based off of the Spec Ops rules so unarmed knockouts are slightly more feasible.

I've allowed people to pull punches (if they hit with a kill result they can call it a ko) in the past with few issues. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Seems pretty reasonable and well thought out, Menthedor. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

Thank you, Thank you. I'm glad to see that it looks good to folks, its always nice to have a second opinion.
Garhkal: Sounds pretty reasonable and effective to me. though I'm using a number of house rules including Hit Points so the wound chart only has limited use for me. Some of my more experienced players didn't like the damage 16 equals death rule so HP (stamina roll + 20 HP) makes for a a decent buffer and in some cases high stamina skills]. Thanks for the input. |
