Would it be deemed acceptable to institute a rule that some craft have, in addition to the standard four shield arcs (fore, aft, port, starboard), also have a VENTRAL and DORSAL shield option? For example, such vessels like the YT-1300 and the Star Destroyers (and similar capital ships) present more surface area above and below, as opposed to the other quarters.
Again, thinking out loud.

I always wished that level of specificity would have been given for weapons too. "turret" isn't always particularly helpful. _________________ "A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing"- George Lucas |

We see in the films severl ships take hits on their dorsal planes. I've always jjust assumed that tthe shields cover top and bottom in whatever quadrent they are angled. So you essentially cover 25% (roughly) of the ship's suurface area with your shields. |

While this does make sense (and would work better if you use a hex map, like the old Trek Starfleet Battles game), I like the simplicity of only four, myself.
The more angles that people have to protect, the more likelihood (for both sides) that they're not going to have the proper angle "covered" when a shot comes in. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

Adding extra arcs would throw off the balance of the game. IIRC, starfighter scale had two arcs to cover (front and back) Capital scale had four (F,B,L,R), and Death Star scale had six (North, South, East, West, Top, and Bottom) Never mind that most people would see north as top and south as bottom... _________________ Or that excessively long "Noooooooooo" was the Whining Side of the Force leaving him. - Dustflier
