So, I went to a Weird Al Yankovic concert last night. He puts on an awesome show, and the encore is the best part for a Star Wars fan. For the ovation, he and the band come back out dressed as Jedi (except for the keyboardist, who wears Sith Lord robes) and performs The Saga Begins and Yoda. Anyway, one of Weird Al's trademarks is Hawaiian shirts, and that got me thinking about possibly having a character who wears Hawaiian shirts in the SWU. Of course, I can't call them Hawaiian shirts, so my question for the Forum is, what known society in the SWU is the most likely to produce something like a Hawaiian shirt? _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. pick any world that has tropical and sub-tropical zones and oceans and the Hawaiian and Tropical shirts will appear, they will all likely be called "Tropical Shirts".
got a friend that went to a wedding in Korea and stopped in Japan on the way back, she's in to tropical shirts adf got a few of silk ones with Oriental Dragons and/or Samurai fighting in the waves and others (in poly-cotton) with Anime designs on them. so designs will likely be varied in SWU, not just Tropical Florals. |

But if that were the case, we would probably call them the same thing here. Nomenclature for anything never follows entirely logical patterns, and a shirt of that style will almost automatically be called a Hawaiian shirt, even if you bought it in Japan, Fiji, Hong Kong, or wherever. There are a few cultures in the SWU famed for their relaxed attitudes (Pantolomin, Wroonia, Zeltros). I'm just looking for opinions as to which one would be the most likely to have their name attached to a shirt style that is famous across the galaxy (like the Hawaiian). _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. In my part of the world "Hawaiian Shirts" have a selected range of Prints, Cuts and Pockets. something close but not quite where I'm from gets called a "Tropical Shirt". |

Reference? Not knocking the suggestion, but there would also need to be some sort of back story as to why this planet's shirt design became famous galaxy wide... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. Hmm. Not feeling it. The environment is right, but the place is practically unknown outside of the Fringe. IMO, it needs a place with more fame as a tourist location. I'm leaning towards Pantolomin... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. We had a player that just loved the flower print shirts and his character was always wearing them as well.
His tropical prints was written to come from Ithor and made famous galaxy wide due to the Ithorian herd ships and called them 'Ithorian shirts' or 'herd shirt' and made from Ithorian spider silk. |
