|
|
Has anyone houseruled more detailed scale mods, or is such a concept sanctioned in WEG canon publications?
E.g. A "small walker" scale for the AT-ST, since it is larger than a speeder bike, but smaller than the AT-AT. Say, 3D.
E.g. A "space transports" scale for the YT-1300, since it is larger than the typical X-wing and TIE fighter, but definitely smaller than a capital ship (as the Star Destroyers). Say, 8D.
Would this idea be too much crunch to have any benefit? Is it too fiddly to bother with?
Just thinking out loud. |

WE have had a few threads in the past where new scale mods were put up by others...
One suggestion was to add in 2 scales in the mix between fighter scale and cap scale (freighter and escort)
So it would normally (with those 2 added in) look like
Character
Speeder +2d
Walker +4d
Fighter +6d
Freighter +8d
Escort +10d
Cap +12d _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Kind of... I use the MiniSix static defense values, and along with that the scale modifiers they use which are adapted from d6. That means the scaling need not be done in +/- 3 increments, you could scale small transports up from starfighters at +/-1 for instance.
As to "too fiddly", that's probably where I'd come out. I wouldn't re-scale existing stuff, generally, as it hasn't really bothered me so much in practice, at least in SW. I always thought of it as more of an issue for d6 Fantasy, where you have things ranging from rat to goblin to centaur to giant to dragon to titan (for instance). _________________ "A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing"- George Lucas |

I've simply married D20 scale with D6 scale, but only for "difficulty to hit the target". For DMG and DR I incorporated the existing modifiers into the statistics permanently. _________________ Nico,

Yeah, the D6 Space did some things with scale. I use it pretty frequently in my fantasy campaign, and it's worked well there. However, I never have them attacking walkers or starfighters. There may be a point where it doesn't work quite as neatly.
Essentially they add a hit/damage modifier to the roll, whether it be -3 or +10 or whatever is merited. I can post a copy if you'd like. _________________ __________________________________

How often do you have people targeting in the subatomic? How do you begin to target something if it's impossible to know it's precise location and velocity? _________________ Or that excessively long "Noooooooooo" was the Whining Side of the Force leaving him. - Dustflier

Don't they do it in particle accelerators and supercoliders? _________________ __________________________________

Yeah, I didn't say all of the scales would be used all that often, but they're there in case the need ever arises.
Just as I would likely not have a lot of Sub-Atomic scales needing to be rolled, I would also likely not have many Stellar 3 scales needing to be rolled. There's only so many times you need to roll for stars the size of Antares. |

As I understand it they measure indirect effects, then try to pin more information down from observations. Admittedly they do have an understanding of what they are launching so in that way you are right. |

But you don't have dice for the terrestrial through stellar scales.... _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

I hadn't had a need to go higher, as yet.
But if I were to stat them:
Lunar = 28D ..... 112
T1 = 32D ..... 128
T2 = 36D ..... 144
T3 = 40D ..... 160
G1 = 48D ..... 192
G2 = 60D ..... 240
S1 = 96D ..... 384
S2 = 150D ..... 600
S3 = 225D ..... 900
This would explain why the Death Star, a scale 96, didn't just shoot the planet of Yavin (a gas giant...scale of at least 192) before it targeted the moon with the rebel base (a lunar scale of 112). |

I cannot argue with that logic. _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

The microbal scale makes me want to run an Open D6 "Body Wars" type adventure. You know, one where you get shrunk down and have to perform a bunch of tasks inside some guy. _________________ __________________________________

I'm glad to see that my two modest additions have spawned a fishy school of humorous embellishments. Contrarywise, we could just keep things simple:
Code: | Lilliputian...........12D
Gulliverian...........0D
Brobdingnagian........30D |
