The Greased Nerf was a fast ship and had a lot of cool features, but getting the ship to that point required a lot of modications and home-made repairs and upgrades. After only three weeks of working with the ship, Kage and Bri'tan had not even begun to scratch the surface of knowing what the ship could do. Nor were they aware of all of the problems the ship may or may not have.
Twittering quietly to himself, Kage worked to try and locate some of those problems and see what he could do about improving the Greased Nerf. Lost in his work, Kage did not even notice that Bri'tan was late and had not bothered to check in. He does notice, however, as he runs diagnostics on the hyper-drive, that there have been a few too many power fluctuations for his liking. |

Kage pauses mid-beep, silently examining the data before him. Power fluctuations, power fluctuations...but why? With this bucket of bolts, "why not" might be a more fitting question. Resuming his quiet monologue of tweets and chirps, Kage sets about investigating the source of the power fluctuations, highlighting and focusing on the state of and connections to the ship's Quadex power core.

After looking over the diagnostics, Kage develops a hunch and popping the side panel off of the hyperdrive casing confirmed what he had thought: a two-foot section of the super-conducting wire was fried. Apparently when the hyper-drive was upgraded to add more power and speed, the superconducting wire was not upgraded to handle the increased energy output.
The little droid figures they can still make a few jumps, but also assumes that each jump will fry larger sections of the maze of wire and at some point, the ship won't be able to jump at all.
The section of wire is replaceable, and Kage thinks there may be a coil of replacement wire somewhere in one of the cargo holds. |

Leaving the hyperdrive casing open, Kage rolls off toward one of the cargo sections in search of a heavier gauge wire, the rubber of his knobby tires squeaking slightly on the freighter's smooth deck. Dreading facing the state of the cargo holds, Kage finds himself wishing that Bri'tan would get off his large posterior and get to work organizing the mess that was the holds. How is a droid supposed to work on the ship when half the cargo holds look like a Ranat had tried to build a series of condominiums out of spare parts in them? Maybe he should hide the ship's food stores underneath it all; food seemed to be a good motivator for his new master. Speaking of Bri'tan, where was he? Arriving at the first cargo hold, Kage pushes that particular query aside for the time being. Making a noise that could only be interpreted as an electronic sigh, Kage sets about trying to find a length of wire to repair the hyperdrive.

(ooc - I love the droid's personality already.)
Kage arrives in the cargo bay area and finds it to be just about as unorganized as he had feared. He beeps in frustration and begins his search. The good news, is that the search did not take all that long until he found about 6 feet of superconducting wire hanging on a hook on the wall. The bad news, is that the wire is the same lower-grade stuff already in the hyperdrive. A patch job would have to suffice for the time-being. |

Voicing his annoyance to the empty ship, Kage begins looking for a relay fuse, hoping he won't have to make one himself. If he patches the replacement wiring in with the relay fuse, it should allow the existing superconducting wire to be used until it finally goes, and then switch to the replacement wiring without incident. In theory.

Kage has no luck (ooc - bad roll) finding a relay fuse. He blurts out a series of frustrated sounds and realizes he may have to make do with just the wire for now. |

Blatting his displeasure, Kage extends a grasping arm and snatches the wiring from the wall. Holding it out in front of him and off to the side so that he won't inadvertently roll over the trailing ends, he makes his way back to the hyperdrive and busies himself with his repairs. Deciding to forego a homemade relay fuse, Kage instead attempts to get the temporary repair affected as efficiently as possible; there will undoubtedly be something else to repair as soon as he's finished with this, and he has no time to waste. Kage decides that Bri'tan had better be back---and helping him with the neverending work on the ship---by the time the hyperdrive is repaired, or he's going to hear about it for the next twenty-four standard hours. _________________ Arek | Kage |

Kage makes it back to the hyper-drive and proceeds with his repairs. Getting the old wire cut out and removed proved to be an easy task, but bending the new wire to fit just right proves to be a little more of a challenge with the grasper arms. But, the droid is confident he will have his job done soon - with more speed and better quality than any sentient being could accomplish. |

Kage twitters and chirps in a most self-satisfied manner as he works. Once finished, he goes over his work once more to ensure that his repairs are done to the utmost of his ability. Still, it's only a jury-rigged job. Heavier-gauge wire is still needed, and then he'll get to do it all over again. Or maybe this time he'd make Bri'tan do it; the overweight Bith was still nowhere to be found, and Kage was beginning to become perturbed. Making sure the access panel is secured in place, Kage wheels about and speeds off towards the cockpit, making sounds that would remind anyone listening of a synthesized caf grinder on low speed. If he could raise Bri'tan on the comm, his absentee master was going to get an earful.
[OOC: Mechanical/Communications 4D, trying to beep in on Bri'tan's comlink. I know it's got a dead or near-dead battery, but Kage doesn't know that.
Edit: I hadn't read the latest posts in Bri'tan's intro thread when I posted the first part of the OOC type...I swear it was coincidental!] _________________ Arek | Kage |

After checking over his work a second time, Kage is satisfied with the hyperdrive, at least until better wire can be obtained. Just as Kage turns to head toward the cockpit he hears Bri'tan's voice come through on the communicator: “Kage! I’ll be back in a few minutes. I ran into a little trouble on the way back. Check outside the ship for anyone or anything that shouldn’t be there.” With that, the comlink goes silent.

Bri'tan's transmission elicits a tone from Kage that is a mixture of alarm and excitement, and the little astromech kicks it into high gear. His rubber tires squeal with each rounded corner, and if it weren't for his repulsor ring's residual field, he'd surely have toppled over. Arriving at the ship's cockpit, Kage quickly jacks in and begins running a perimeter scan. Extending his periscopic video sensor so that he can peer over the controls and out of the cockpit, he slowly pans back and forth, looking for anything out of the ordinary.
[OOC: Mechanical/Sensors 4D for one round, then the next round, Perception/Search 2D + 3D equipment bonus = 5D. Alternate between each at one action per round for six rounds, then begin preflight prep.] _________________ Arek | Kage |

Kage's initial scan on the perimeter scan does not reveal anything, though once his video sensor gets high enough in the air, he does notice two individuals hanging out and smoking near the docking bay entrance. |

Kage emits a shrill sound of alarm and quickly retracts his video sensor until he can just barely see the individuals over the ship's controls. Still patched in to the ship, Kage engages the communications system and hails Bri'tan. The droid sounds somewhat agitated as he tries to inform his master of the two individuals' presence.
-Two individuals at the docking bay entrance! Also, they are SMOKING!-
[OOC: Translated text is above between the dashes; highlight to see what Kage says. This will be how I do it any time I actually spell out what he is saying. Can Kage tell what species the two beings are? Also, how many ways into the docking bay are there, and are they single (one ship) bays, or larger, communal (multiple ships in one hangar) bays?] _________________ Arek | Kage |

Kage sends his transmission to Bri'tan, unsure of how much the big pilot will be able to understand of the agitated message.
(OOC - Aside from a few emergency exits, there is only one way into the docking bay. It is a small, private docking bay, only housing three ships. There are small dividing walls separating the three bays, but they all feed into the one entryway.) |
