Towards the end of my campaign an alliance of 5 planets will form to protect themselves from Sith and Hutts, etc.
I want to avoid any names already taken or similar too. Besides the Alliance of Free Planets what other groups,
organizations, etc. are already taken? Any thoughts will be most helpful.

Thank you!! | Sounds like an interesting idea. In our house campaign we had a group of rebels from five neighboring planets out in the Outer Rim. About 1 year before the Battle of Yavin the group formed a organization called the Union of Free Planets and formally joined the Alliance. But that is just our house campaign, so the name and variants are still up for grabs.
The Republic's opponent in the Clone Wars was the Confederacy of Independent Systems. You might also avoid calling them the New Republic.
You might want to look to the purpose and intent of the founders in choosing a name. Historically on earth a confederation/confederacy is often a looser, less centralized organization that a federation. Given US history, a union might be thought of as having a stronger central government than a confederacy. An alliance often has a single, temporary purpose rather than a long term permanent organization. League is another term often used for some type of union or confederation. Other than those few off the top of my head, I'd get out the old thesaurus and see if there is anything there that I like. |

personally I've always been partial to Conglomerate which is similar to a confederation I suppose.
The (place sector name here) Conglomerate could have a nice ring to it _________________ -

The (place sector name here) Conglomerate could have a nice ring to it | When I hear conglomerate I think of a corporation made up of other corporations. Which could still work if each of the five planets is run by a corporation or group of corporations. |

It's true that, it would be the most common use of the word, but I see no reason why this could not be applied to various single governments, who have agreed on a common government. _________________ -
